I think constructive criticism is better than blind ass kissing, so hopefully you don't take offense and try to see the ways in which you certainly can improve yourself, not only as an admin but as a person.

Mainly, I think you need to work on your communication. The way you interact with others is not professional. To be an admin, you should be a good leader. And being a good leader requires good people skills and being able to handle yourself maturely and respectfully, even when annoyed or frustrated.

You come across as an individual with a bit of a god complex. Sure, it's important to be critical and bring down the hammer when necessary, but you seem to look for ways to complain or belittle individuals (sometimes without fully understanding a situation) just to feed your ego. Learning how to raise productivity in a group environment requires a leader that looks for ways to build and improve, rather than tear down for the sake of feeling superior.

I don't necessarily think that you don't work hard. I think that you do, and that you do actually want what's best for the site. Which is why I would suggest some self-reflection, so that you can improve upon the way you present yourself and handle difficult situations. Don't take everything so offensively, and don't look for ways to pick everything apart for the sake of feeding your god complex.

This isn't anything in particular, as I've never even really talked to you. Just observations over time.

For the site's best interest, my primary suggestion:

Step down from admin until you can fit the leadership role. You still work hard, and I respect that. I think you'd be best suited stepping down to either sectional or global moderator (not necessarily stepping down from staff as a whole, just as admin).

@Shin can obviously reply himself, but I felt a need to reply to this in particular. You and the vast majority of Sythe have no idea how much time Shin puts into this site and how he fulfills a role that currently no other administrator (or likely current staff member) could fulfill. Being a general administrator is vastly different from being a technical administrator. All of those little things that just "happen" on Sythe are tied to someone and that "someone" is often Shin.

Ever wonder how you could join the Sythe discord and go through an entire verification process automatically so you know who you're talking to in the Sythe discord?

Now, none of this makes Shin immune to feedback or c&c, but offering "feedback" and having the resolution be resigning hardly constitutes feedback; genuine constructive criticism involves allowing the person to improve on whatever is being addressed.

Yes Shin does a lot for the site, nobody is denying that. The post was larger than the small segment that you quoted, though. I can't speak for Alice, but I can read and quote what she wrote.

This CAN be improved upon, and is constructive criticism. I think the final suggestion was in the event Shin felt he couldn't work on that in the time being, or was unwilling to, for whatever reason.

Feedback can be both good and bad. Having some negative feedback doesn't mean there's drama, you just seem to want to be looking for some.

Shin can learn from his shortcomings and work to improve - that's the point of FEEDBACK. Yeah leaving positive feedback is perfectly fine. It's cool to let someone know when they're doing well. But there's a bit of a difference between positive feedback and very blatant ass kissing.

Was also going to reply to Tmoe but Milotic covered that well enough.

 

I think Closer is right and I would advise, too, that Shin should step down and make his way back up by improving on the skills he lack.

 

I think @Shin would appreciate my posting this because him and I didn't see eye to eye so I will say....

@Alice yes I believe Shin could work on receiving feedback and criticism / the way his attitude is portrayed however him stepping down would be catastrophic to the site. He puts in work, anyone who believes otherwise is confused.

That being said, Shin, keep up the hard work and dedication to this website. Don't put your guard up towards comments like mine or others who agreed with Alice. We're really just trying to help.

 

Not that active anymore but from what I see you care about the site and do a lot for it, even if people don't always agree with what you are implementing, we can still respect the hard work you are doing and your effort. Like Dave said try not to be so guarded when people try to give their opinion (we aren't here to attack you). People wanting you to step down need to chill a bit lol. Speaking of people skills, Shin is probably one of the more approachable admins (compared to admins in past history). He may be guarded (we all have our flaws to work on) but it is better to have an admin that cares than not respond to you at all.

 

I didn't see a need to respond to these posts initially, although I did have a short discussion and made comments with some community members the other day. However, as it appears certain users are trying to "gang up" on me or "jump on the bandwagon" so-to-speak, I feel it's worthwhile to respond and address a lot of false information and misinterpretations being represented in recent posts. Also, note I'm saying this based on the responses I'm about to give for "feedback" I've received. I really do appreciate feedback, but I need more than nothing to work from in order to make any adjustments. I hope you will understand what that means.

Can you please provide examples where I've been unprofessional? Are you trying to say I'm a bad leader, immature, and disrespectful to others? If so, please provide examples instead of speaking in platitudes so I can know how to improve.

A god complex? If you think that I feel I'm better than everyone else, then you don't know me at all lol. If you can provide examples to give insight as to why you feel this way, I'll be able to understand your perspective better.

I self-reflect multiple times everyday. Also, it's contradictory to tell me not to take things offensively while trying to accuse me of having a god complex at the same time. I don't take offense to things unless people are making wild accusations about me. Is that unrealistic?

I can learn when given something to actually work with, yes.

I didn't really want people to know about this, but yes... Mostly because people don't need to know about that (and many others things), but this in-particular as it's something I shouldn't be doing technically.

A lot of people (staff included) are intimidated by me for some reason. I've never understood why, but it's been common for people to not understand who I am or what I stand for. And yes, we had some issues seeing eye to eye, but I still don't understand what those issues were. I didn't have any issues with you, but you kept saying you had issues with me and that we couldn't work together. If you'd like to speak with me about this, my door is open.

Can you explain what you mean by being guarded when others try to give their opinion? I always welcome other's opinions and value users as individuals instead of just some number.

@Mootrucks I just want to start off by saying you're a real piece of work to try to post anything about this on my feedback thread. Not only did I try to help multiple times where I shouldn't have been needed (this is a very common theme these days), but you took that opportunity to take things out of context, twist my words, come up with conspiracy theories, and do whatever you could to shove a knife in my back after offering to help out (because no one else would, right?). This really seems to encompass a lot of bitter people on the site these days and their opinion of me, because gossip like this is being spread around and people actually believe it or want to join in and troll about it. It's actually really disappointing to see you do something like this, especially leaking private DM's without permission, but that's fine because I have nothing to hide. Although you conveniently left out a lot of pictures, I'll respond to your text points and provide clarity.

Please tell me how I'm not handling "power" properly? How am I "extremely shady?" What did I "lie" about? Or did I make a mistake and offered to help after realizing what happened?

To be clear, you're not entitled to a reason or explanation what-so-ever, but we try to do so as feedback for people to try and improve. I don't see anything having to do with the denial reason makes me "shady" in any way. I'd love to hear your perspective on that though.

Okay. Saying something about the "immaturity" part was right, but I suppose you could tie that together with attitude too. I did miss that when I sent a PM to Hahanerd originally, but I don't know how or why (as I stated).

As I said during our conversation and I'll clearly state again, the reasons for people voting no on your application were 100% valid.

I received a message from Matthew the same day you initially messaged me and I didn't know if any progress had been made yet.

What do you mean by "hide" your denial reasons? You were inactive, had some attitude issues according to select staff, and quite clearly do represent issues related to maturity. I wasn't giving you specifics because leaking is against the staff code of conduct, but you can keep pressing me for it all you want. I told you exactly what I posted on your application and that my post didn't matter, as I was the last person to post on all of the applications.

Yes, because I actually reached out to the individuals who voted no on your application for something related to activity like I said. After seeing you responding to the whole situation like this, however, I'm incredibly disappointed I did anything for you in the first place or that Charlotte tried to be a good person and share her opinions so you could try use them in a way like this.

While I thought you joining the CDT was progress and a step in the right direction for you to potentially return as staff, I wouldn't be surprised if @mumble took your actions into review and had your return to CDT reevaluated.

I can assure whoever's crying about me being protected by him is about the farthest from the truth you could be, he is logical with his decisions no matter who it is, sometimes that ends poorly for me and sometimes it ends well for me - Shin and I have been friends and enemies over the years(In my mind at least), there is a love-hate relationship but one thing there is definitely NOT, is bias.

Anyway Shin took the time out of his schedule yesterday to help fix 2 of my websites and seems to be doing a lot of excellent work with Sythe & the other teams in a time the other admins are all busy, he's did a solid job holding down the fort so its a +1 from me.

 

I like to believe I'm quite objective in nature, and more often than not, am not biased. In saying that, I'll openly post if I disagree with something on this website, no matter who implemented/cause said disagreement.

Yes, what others have said regarding Shins communication, inter-personal, not willing to take criticism and his defensive nature is all true to an extent. Being heavier in some traits than the other. We all have flaws, and we all generally strive to better ourselves by improving on said flaws. Shin should by now know he needs to work on the above, and that's the first step. However, people telling/advising him to resign is silly. He clearly needs to work on the above, and he knows that, however, it doesn't take away from his technical capability, and want to better this website as a whole. Yes, many of you (and myself) may disagree with his rulings at times, however, that's what leads to a healthy discussion on said topic - I.E, the recent CDT/TC/PR perks.

Instead of demanding his resignation, it would be far more constructive to allow him to NOW work on improving, as per everyone's feedback, and then revisit your sentiments in a few months.

@Shin work on your communication, and the way you treat others to an extent, and I'm sure people's views will change.

 

You literally threw a blanket statement over me. How is this treating me as an individual? You grouped me. I don't think I've ever opposed changes to the development teams until this one yet you throw me in with a group that is apparently always against changes. You looked at my ex-mod rank and just assumed, right?

The people who look up to you will run with whatever you say. Notice how after you made this statement, users such as Andy Sandburger continued tried to invalidate our opinions with the same phrase about how we are just ex-mods that don't want to see changes?

Below is an example of how you don't really know how to talk to people. Instead of asking him why he feels like it looks confusing, you appear to just treat him like he's an idiot. This is what I mean by guarded. You claim you welcome other people's opinions but who would believe that when they see stuff like this? You belittle people.

 

I saw the pattern myself and as I explained, when generalizing it isn't pointed towards any one person. What do you want me to name every single person I think is guilty of something every time specifically? That'd be retarded. Stop taking everything personally when it isn't necessarily directed at you.

Shin had nothing to do with my statements as I don't even remember him saying anything on the topic.
