Global Warming - Should we worry about it now?

Of course we should worry about it, it will gradually over time heat up the planet to such extents that humans will all die to the increase of heat in the atmosphere. The polar ice caps melting could also disrupt the weather system causing drastic effects aside from massive floods and covering up/drowning a good portion of the population and massively covering up much of the land. Something needs to be done fast and it has to be drastic. Along with the heating up of the planet and melting of the polar ice caps, this could also plummet the planet into the next ice age.

This is, of course, purely speculation off of a random assortment of suggestions of things which i have heard/read about.

No, it is simply a political trend. Yes, as of right now the earth is heating up(100,000 years from now the average temp will be 10 degress warmer if the current trend continues), but the facts are the earth goes through cycles. Humans have a small impacts on the "greenhouse effect". Natural methane from oceans alone accounts for 25x more "greenhouse effects".

The earth continually warms and cools. There was big political talk of global cooling in the 70s, point being we can't do a whole lot about it nor will we see any drastic changes.

Global Warming - Should we worry about it now?

    Anyway.

I don't think we should worry about Global warming. It would be widely beneficial for the whole human race. Melting ice caps would provide water for the starving poor people to irrigate their land to grow food, England would actually have a nice temperature, and Al-Gore would be an epic producer of Lulz.

Unless you kill every animal in the world and send them into space, along with the human race, it won't stop, so there's no point of wasting millions of tax money overpaying scientists to say what the government wants them to.

Oh, and if you wanted why it would be good or bad:

No - We can't stop it
No - Too many god damned Tv adverts as it is
    No - Taxes
No - Some people want a car that doesn't run on rice
No - The world is gonna end in 2012 anyway, who cares?

Yes - Moar monies for the government
Yes - Rich people will get richer making their false promises to attract people

    And by the way.
What the hell do volcanoes have to do with climate changing?

It would also flood those fields so nothing could grow there. They'd be underwater.

Well, we could probably stop it, but it would take a while.

    Not a valid reason.

Taxes to save humanity from huge stresses. Yeah, that's tough.

That's not necessarily the only solution.

Lame. It's not going to happen. If you want, you can argue about it in the 2012 thread somewhere in SFA.

They emit vast amounts of greenhouse gases. >.>

Yes, the oceans have gotten taller, from all of the ice caps melting.

Algal blooms are occuring more and more often.

We have people running suv's all the time

Like my teacher said, our generation is going to decide if it gets fixed or not.

    edit/

and Shredder sums it up quite nicely above me.

Global Warming - Should we worry about it now?

Wow, I have never seen so much ignorance in one thread!!

We CAN stop global warming, but it's a huge problem to convince everybody, especially the USA and China. They are the biggest polluters of the whole world. The USA is too stupid to sign that damn Kyoto protocol, and China will say it's our fault, because we moved all our labour and factories to them.
Ofcourse there's still Europe, but they did sign the Kyoto protocol.
    IMAGE: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1e/Kyoto_Protocol_participation_map_2005.png
Hence the fact that only the US is red.
(red is declined, yellow is pending, grey is no position)

On the TV there are alot of ads about green current (or w/e it's called).
On school they teach kids about global warming, recycling, etc.
But the biggest problem is, people still drive around in huge ass cars, who run on less than 1:6 (liters:kilometres).

Um, cars burning gas and creating greenhouse gasses, and big suv's wasting gas, and polar ice caps is a natural earth cycle?

    dont think so

Personally, i think at THIS point in time, it is too early to be REALLY concerned with the state our planet is in. Right now, it is not a dire situation, and it wont be for a looong time, maybe 30-40 years from now. Yet, its is a thought in the back of all our heads.....

Hmm, I think it is natural earth cycles. It's happened before, who's to say it's not happening now?

    Link
    http://ezinearticles.com/?If-Global-Warming-is-Not-Real-Then-What-Normal-Cycles-are-Causing-the-Planet-to-Heat-Up?&id=455448

I would have posted just the link, but I'd have less people look at it. Anyhow, point is the earth goes through natural cycles. A catastrophic disaster is NOT going to happen. This, in my mind, is yet another pollitical angle.

Ok, so the holes above the U.S and Europe isnt anything? its just a hole that is there to invite our friends of the outer planets to come here?

What about the polar caps melting, the ocean getting higher and higher, all of the algal blooms that are occuring because of the higher temps., and do you know what happens when algal blooms occur more often?

    If not, heres an explanation.

Algal blooms contain toxins. These toxins in high doses kill.

    Its not man-made,
    its probably beneficial,
and you can't do anything about it.

    1. ozone holes are getting smaller, and the biggest ozone hole on record is the size of north america and currently resides over Antarctica
    2. polar caps are melting, what's your point. The colder water could throw the climate into a colder trend.
    3. The ocean levels rise and fall from ice age to ice age
[IMG]as you can see, sea levels are evening out compared to 16,000yrs ago-6,000yrs ago.
4.algal blooms? The only danger of the increase in them I've read about is the toxins staying with a specific type of shellfish that people eat. Not deadly.

Global Warming - Should we worry about it now?

    Simple as it is.
    This is my normal point.
Living in the world as we are today we wont be affected WHATSOEVER due to this, so I say, WHO CARES?
Maybe or childrens children, MIGHT get affect but the human race has to end some were? And if you think of it you are gonna die? Why not go out with a bang/everyone else?
