Unsatisfied with growth

It is not really possible to proactively moderate something when you don't have permissions to actually moderate it and you need to report the posts so they are reactively moderate it. For the other one you can only do so much when you can only ask other people to ask other people do work together better and actually function like a team. There needed to be more unified goals and cooperation across the teams and there needed to be changes for that to happen. I got buy in from some people but nothing ever materialized so the teams continued to have infighting and stupid drama instead of working towards a common goal.

 

I mean it sounds like I don't want to help in a way you think will help but I do want to help in a way that I think will help. I agree that revitalization of old sections will not attract new people but it will help retain old members. There has always been this path from a member being attracted by something Runescape (or gaming) related to a more community oriented member that liked the general discussion forums and hanging out with people. If you can keep those community members around you can build a stronger site that isn't so tied to the ups and downs of gaming and have longer term more invested members. Both are important and I don't think only one deserves focus.

 

Communities create content, do they not? Also one of the ways I wanted to revitalize sections was to create content. Content does indeed create content.

Your content (the programming course and SytheLib) requires a general love for learning and computer science skills, and you're surprised nobody is utilizing it on a RuneScape blackmarket forum where the average user most probably dropped out of high school? You're trolling.

 

I personally like it. Didn't realize it was in effect until I read this, but overall it is nice. Seems to be working decently.

Can you post your sources as to where you garnered your evidence that the average user dropped out of high school? Seems pretty irrational to just assuming the majority doesn't have a high school education, considering the amount of users there are, banned or otherwise.

And a programming course is meant to introduce you to the concept, or possibly just help you hone your skills. You don't necessary need the love for what is a pretty basic course. Most individuals who do use the knowledge from the course are most likely beginners themselves, so they may not be totally confident on whether they "love" learning the skill and want to utilize it or if it is just something that piqued their interest at the time.

name developers that are still active. they've all left the forum, so you've essentially created content for nobody. you passed the ball to the empty side of the court, bro.

 

Didn't read every post on this thread so I might be repeating things but let's be honest people don't go go forums anymore to discuss general topics, there's reddit for that now. Active forums still exist such as the btc forum but that might be because it's a relatively new technology and the forum offers a lot more use for people to discuss btc compared to for example reddit because when you're dealing with such a broad topic it's useful to have all these subsections as opposed to reddit where you have a mixture of everything in one place.

I think the only way to revive a forum like this is through utility. You have to give people a reason to come here. I don't play pubg but apparently there's a market for it so I question why there isn't one on Sythe. Maybe wait for a new game to come out, a hyped up one like Overwatch or pubg, and be the first site to add a market for it, then advertise it?

Part of the reason is also because this is a RuneScape focused forum and RS really dropped in playerbase the last few years since Jagex ruined the main game though. You can't really control that. Maybe this is ambitious but maybe an automated system like PlayerAuctions so people don't need to go through the hassle of finding a MiddleMan could increase the userbase?

Just a few of my thoughts, I think in general it's going to be very hard to revive such an old forum focused mainly on a game that isn't that popular anymore though. People will only come back for one thing: utility. I think the age of forums being a social hub is over with reddit existing.

 

Every week you fail to have a PUBG section you are losing members. This is one of the biggest games on the market right now. Also start to look at games such as Star Citizen, the release of Vanilla Wow etc.. This site is too way slow on updates for sections.

You should also look at some sort of heavy promotions for when Runescape is released on phones and tablets as this will bring a influx of new and existing players.

The staff put a lot of time into maintaining the site which is understandable, but more needs to be done to grow it at this stage now.
