[VOTE] Community: Do you approve us cleaning up the Comm Gen stickies?

Hello friends,

In the Community General section we currently have 10 stickies. It bloats up everything and pushes current threads further down the page. We would like to propose that we merge a number of these stickies into one, easy-to-access thread which should be a one-stop-shop for new members. Any threads that require you to post in them would not be merged.

We would structure it as follows:
1. [READ BEFORE POSTING] Information and Rules
2. FAQ
--- About Sythe.org Staff, Ranks and Titles
--- Trading 101 - Vouches, donor status and how you can stay safe!
--- How to get your Sythe referral link
--- List of Username Changes
--- Community Development Team - Members, Hall of Fame & Past Events
3. Sythe Social Media
--- This would include links to all of the Sythe social media accounts, including Official Sythe Discord
4. Interested in joining CDT, TC, or PR team? Click here!
5. Copy of CURRENT CDT THREAD (this would be added/removed as necessary. The original CDT thread would still remain separate.)

Please give feedback on 1) this idea in general and 2) whether we should add/remove any threads merged into this one. Any threads not merged would remain as standalone stickies in the Comm Dev section. I'll leave the poll open for a week and act accordingly with what you guys think - please leave a post below explaining if you vote for something besides yes!

Locked CDT weeklies threads(and other locked threads) should also be moved to an archive for those specific threads.

This will mean there are more active threads on the first page, and the section will be a bit more active!

 

Voted Yes (with changes to proposed threads included). By that I mean they should be updated, but in this case they should be updated properly so they no longer need to be updated properly in the future. For example the list of current staff could be updated the way it just refers you to the Notable Staff Members page.

 

No support. There is no need as there are hardly any (public) posts in the subforum. Right now the oldest thread on the first page is 1 month old. When there are no seasonal events for some time it can even happen that the first page contains threads from months ago. Just go a few pages back in the subforum and you'll see how quickly the years pass by because of the lack of threads.

 

I definitely agree with the proposed structure previously mentionned above. Currently, the stickies look a bit messy and aren't listed in order. For example, it doesn't make any sense to have the Information and Rules thread for the Community General section at the bottom of the stickies when clearly it should the first listed to make sure the people who post understand what this section is about.

Condensing a few stickies into a FAQ thread is also a great idea and it will look more organized for the new members.

The media page is my favorite. I Can't believe it wasn't thought of sooner, as currently, our media links can be found at the bottom right of every page and let's be honest, you gotta put your glasses in order to see them. We keep saying we have to recruit more people through our media pages, but the first and logical step would be to inform our current members of these pages, as they will serve as the root of our medias.

As we are currently in the process of cleaning the Community General section, I don't see why we wouldn't want to apply this suggestion. Currently, almost half of the main page is filled with locked thread, which doesn't look pretty and useful, as you can't post on them and these threads are most likely useless. The logical answer would indeed be to archive them all, support.

Good point, but what we're mostly trying to do here is to clean up the section/stickies and be ready for future threads, if there have to be any. I don't see why we wouldn't want to place a bit of order and change the format of the stickies and if it can help the section, that's killing two birds with one stone and I don't see any negative from it.

With that being said, voted.

 

Just to react a bit more indepth on the suggestion. First the bit you wrote do Milotic. If weekly threads are removed and cant be viewed by regular forum members I wouldnt support it. There are times when it comes in handy to be able to view older threads. If the closed threads are moved to a viewable archive then I would support.

To react to you quoting my bit, fair enough. I just looked at the sticky proposal in the OP and the only thing that stood out for me were:

I dont really see how they are suppose to be under 'FAQ'.
The List of Username Changes thread can maybe be moved to the donor lounge as it only concerns donors anyway? The Community Development Team thread doesnt really fit under the FAQ either. Maybe move that to below the development thread? So:

My mistake if I forgot to mention it, of course they would be viewable to the public eye, just like the RAS archives, that's what I had in mind.

For the List of Username Changes thread, I guess that's debateable. I personally remember when I wasn't a donor and I took the time to view that thread, just out of curiosity. Maybe that's because I have an addiction with names, I don't know. But nonetheless that thread remains informative as it covers the past of some users and if you think of it, it can have its place in the FAQ.

As for the CDT hall of fame, we could either keep it under the FAQ, as again it covers the past, or I agree with what you suggested, it could also fit with the CDT, TC and PR recruitement thread.

There are 2 reasons for doing this, firstly to make the section look cleaner and second to make it easier for new members to read the stickies. We know there's an issue with new members not reading the stickies, and having one easily accessible thread should hopefully make things a lot easier.

Regarding the archive of old CDT threads, I actually think keeping them around would make the section look more active. However, that discussion can wait until another time. Let's keep to just talking about the sticky cleanup for now.
