Running my own company

I just started a company with a old buddy of my basically building computers and a bit of networking crap. I am looking for some advice for as I am new to this. We are both I.T students and this is a great learning experience .
I am pretty sure that we set this up pretty well (If anyone can give me advice I am willing to talk on Skype and show you our layout Facebook page and Gumtree ad which is like Craigslist but australian)

Its hard to set up something like that. People want professionals most of the time and i geuss u dont have a office or anything. I geuss just advertise alot is the way to do it. Post pictures of ur work and do things like that. Goodluck.

 

A few things I've picked up from my family over the past few years (Mum and my 2 brothers all have their own separate companies)

1. Research: researching is an important thing to do when you first start up. It gives you a chance to check out the competition and how you can market your prices that's competitive with the others.

2. Website: A very important key factor, if you're great at building websites I would recommend hiring someone who can design and create you your logo/website. Things to have on your website can include online booking, online chat, online diary system, prices, information etc etc. This is very easy for you and the customers.

3. Advertising: Gumtree is good to start with but you'll want more of a client base than people from gumtree. Make business cards/leaflets and hand them out & post through letter boxes. Attend meetings and networking groups that are for small businesses and get your name out there!

 

hire a lawyer and discuss the legal aspects of what you're attempting to do. the last thing you want is for your idea to get squashed by some bogus lawsuit that could have been easily prevented

 

What do you need advice with? i had and run my own business before.

Hoenstly my biggest tip is Gaining TRUST , nothing is more important then that. Sure you can advertise alot but fi your not trusted then this is pointless, goodluck with your business tho

 

Kinda gave up on this idea, and got a job like a normal person. Didn't have the money to start this up, I think I know how to set it up by myself and be sustainable with it.

@GpGiant , trust is the biggest thing you need, as a non-market user like myself, I understand the feeling, causes havoc on your business, since it's narrows the selling point, thanks for your advice.

Problem was at the time I had no money, I'll be looking into the future, I'm still interested in a company but I would like to make sure it's 100% legal, No shady work.

Could a mod lock this, no longer as i'm not as active or interested in this thread nor the sythe community.

just market go on craigslist and every single site you know of post about it get signs cheap things free things but if one extra person even thinks about your company that's a possible customer so market i believe

 

in all honesty people want some one cheap and reliable.

You want to start your own company but do not have the capital to start it, this is where all people fail at making the own business" i do not have the money"

So what you do in your spare time is post add "pc repair man" "computer building specialists" etc etc the adverts do not cost you anything so whats the worry?

Find a product that you do not need to buy to supply like your service and once you get more busy branch out?

Making your own computers? do it on the side post some adverts and require a deposit to buy the supplies to build it with you have vouches etc from being repair man so some trust there

Once you have done a few orders you will see where the market is and where you make your money.

Expand from there! Remember do this in your spare time until you have no time left at that point you can stand back and think is it worth investing my full time into?

 

Just stay open for a long time, eventually your name will get out there.
