Why do you think people scam?

I love to know your input.

 

Quitting the game/site, don't intend to comeback so they just scam for as much as they can and then never comeback.

 

Not a clue. What actually pisses me off more than regular scammers are people that befriend you, know you, talk to you constantly and then suddenly can turn a blind eye and scam everyone in their sight. Kinda scary and sad at the same time.

 

Its easy to emotionally distinguish yourself from your online persona; you have minimal real-life backlash when you scam. Thats why, and I have said this multiple times, I think having people's real-life information is the strongest anti-scam tool you can have. Who would risk to scam a few 100 bucks when they could lose their their good name and potentially their entire future carreer.

Greed is the biggest reason. You'll have those in financial trouble looking for a quick buck, and then you'll have the ones that don't care @Karl.

To be honest I think scamming is so rampant here because these kids think that they are just winning on a game. They don't view it as stealing like at a store. To them it's like killing people in the wilderness of RS for their stuff. That's why I think most scammers are teenagers, they haven't grown up and realized the value of money and the damage they do and how not worth it, it really is to scam people.

 

Because they want to gain a few bucks by scamming innocent people, not only are they screwing someone over by scamming, they are also screwing themselves over by missing out on the chance to be in such a great community.

 

Because they don't realise there are real people behind their computer screens.

Quick/easy money, no real repercussions, detachment by the scam being online and if they never intend on returning then they don't have to face up to what they've done either.

 

Wanting something for free/not putting in the hard work (although sometimes it feels as if they could use the time trying to scam to make what they end up with).
Been scammed previously and salty, so want to scam back what they lost?
