Chester, Linkin Park lead singer Dead at 41

Leaves behind 6 kids and a wife. I grew up listening to Linkin spark everyday. I know the lyrics for ALL of there songs. I always wanted to watch a live concert and now I can't, on their YouTube videos his live voice sounded phenomenal. It's incredibly sad.

It doesn't matter how rich someone is, how good they seem to be, you never know the demons they are dealing with. It's important to reach out, offer help, anything!

Absolutely tragic to hear. I also grew up with Linkin Park and love nu metal as well as most other types of rock. What they've done for music is irreplaceable and I was incredibly sad to hear the news. Really does highlight that we're all vulnerable and need to keep pushing for more to be done with regards to mental health. Another absolute legend lost. Rest in power, Chester.

 

I know that is what I mean, they were just coming back into mainstream like the good old days

 

As a poor kid growing up during the late 90's and early 00's. I grew up listening to linkin park. Hybrid Theory was the first and only cd I ever purchased. To this day it remains my all time favorite album. Thank you for all the childhood memories.

I went to a "Linkubus" concert a few years ago, it was incredible. Suicide may be a selfish act, but I still wish there was better funding for preventative measures.

 

I listened to old linkin park in high school, sucks man, had good memories listening to those songs.

 

Was quite a shock tbh when I first saw the news about it. Life goes on I guess.

 

Fuck you dude, I have no shame and certainly none for the likes of this coward. He had all the money to get help and he didn't. I'm sure there were some indicators of his mental health and drug issues before bringing six fucking children into this world but no, he went on to involve (and hurt) a multitude of other people. If he was a recluse with fewer children and/or fewer familial ties then I wouldn't feel so strongly but the man had the world by the ass and shit all over it. I know money doesn't buy happiness but it definitely buys help.

Funding wouldn't help a multi-millionaire.

 

Don't think I could have made it through middle school w/out listening to Linkin Park. RIP.

He wasn't born a millionaire. He grew up as a sexually abused kid that got in to drugs and alcohol and became very depressed and suicidal. If there was more support or visibility for mental health support maybe these people could be helped before they fall in to what is a hopeless pit of despair sometimes.. and it only takes a split second wrong decision when you're feeling crushed and defeated to end your life. One split second mistake or wrong thought. We all have and make them, some more disastrous than others.

I don't see what good people do or expect to do calling out a dead man's supposed cowardice. I just hope they never find out what it's like to fall in to that despair that can be so hopeless and irrational. You can have everything yet still feel nothing.

So much stigma surrounding mental health still to be undone. And suicide numbers always increase around high profile cases. So please reach out to someone if you need help, any time, it does get better.

I don't mean for any one person in particular. Just a wish I have for the general population. And maybe if it were less socially acceptable, as less people are doing it with preventative measures, even the millionaires would think twice without being humiliated by admitting their faults for the public eye through counseling.

 

That is neither here nor there, he killed himself as one and that was my point in response to "funding for preventative measures" (he had plenty of money for therapy etc). I'm not speaking ill of people in general who feel the need to commit suicide, but that in itself is a selfish action and putting your children through that is beyond selfish. Think about the issues he caused by his actions, this is going to haunt them for the rest of their lives and could very well put them on the same path as their father..

We've all been depressed, I myself struggled through serious drug addiction and have gone through some really dark times but I genuinely believe there is nothing in the world that could convince me that my own problems outweigh the negative impact left on the children and wife he left behind. Hurting yourself is one thing, but leaving a half dozen children fatherless and hurt is despicable.

That said I also loved Hybrid Theory in middle school, it was a great album and I saw Chester on Rhett and Link and he seemed to be a funny personable guy. This really took me by surprise.

I didn't insult you, I just matter-of-factly said fuck you. In fact you're the one throwing around insults is you with your "what are you 10??" comment (with nothing pertinent added to the thread mind you), here's a tip: if you're going to accuse someone of being 10 years old you ought to do it in complete/coherent sentences with proper punctuation sans emojis because it in fact makes you look like a child. People disagreeing with your opinions doesn't warrant you being a fuckboy (theres your insult) telling folks when to feel shame. I obviously don't subscribe to your particular set of morals in this case and thats my prerogative.

I agree 100% on the need for better mental health care as a whole and more funding for it, but Chester had aired his issues (the molestation and drug use anyways) out nearly a decade ago and seemingly didn't seek out help which is unfortunate. The humiliating part was already out there, why he didn't seek help is beyond me.

 

Haven't searched for the news myself, but apparently this happened because he caught his wife cheating, so just another piece of terrible history in his life to drive this unfortunate event :/
