Meh, I don't see the need to dump before a weekend sale if you plan on holding for the long term... I suppose to conserve your profits but I prefer to just let it ride out and enjoy the ride instead of swapping over and exchanging back and fourth.

I find holding ETH beneficial as the split occurs

 

There's no split occurring for now- August 1st is obsolete.

November will be the date to watch now.

 

How will Ethereum be affected mr. Vodka? Need some pointers from the smarty pants. Im quite fresh, one month of researching and this august 1st deal is only looking like it eill affect BTC, however when BtC drops, everything drops.

 

I do not wish ill on ETH since, sadly, it is a good indicator on the health of the alt market. So, while I do believe BTC will regain some bullish movements within the coming weeks, ETH will as well due to the fact that there are a lot of investors backing/familiar with ETH. Until the ICO mania dies down, ETH will remain a factor in market cap surrounding cryptocurrencies simply for their usage (gas) revolving around their dapps and future ICOs.

BTC is showing regained confidence from a reaction on the recent scaling issue (BIP91 activation). Now, SegWit could still be absent from implementation, but that would be a huge curveball at this point.

I'm new to all this as well, so we can all learn together here.

The Ethereum network is a platform which implements smart contracts (I'm very uneducated on this, so it'd be better to google that lol) and allows dapps (Decentralized applications) to be built upon it.

The usage or "gas" can be viewed as the fuel for the network. It's what allows people to execute operations upon the Ethereum platform revolving around their dapp.

ICOs are initial coin offerings. Initial Coin Offering (ICO)

 

So are icos people who will be using the platform or just investors. Mastercard is a known ico, wondering how they would implement ETH into
their business

 

ICOs are startup companies wanting to raise funds to deploy their cryptocurrency at some point. The funds they get can be from ETH, BTC, LTC, and some others that they might list. It runs for a certain amount of time before they close out the ICO.

Then, at some point down the line, they will get their cryptocurrency listed on an exchange (Bittrex, Poloinex, etc.) that can trade amongst investors.

Not necessarily true. Miners (pools) are currently SIGNALLING for BIP91, but there are a few things that can go wrong.. Signalling doesn't guarantee that when the time comes, Segwit will be locked in. Everyone is trusting that miners will do as they say (run the software with the correct upgrades) and that they won't renege on their word and stop just shortly prior to activation. Those with insider knowledge of this possiblility occuring would profit immensely from shorting BTC should the situation play out as such. Don't forget, miners number one incentive is profit, profit, profit. Jihan is a greedy fuck with a lot of influence and mining power to back it up. Expect the unexpected, this is just a word of caution.

 

This weekend has actually been great for profits......A-lot of my alts have already bounced back to what they were or are slowly returning to that point.
