The idea is simple: create a sticky full of 'do not buy' RSNs in the name section for those which have been sniped/recovered etc. This would be the same as the blacklisted account list in the account rental thread.

I'm pretty sure there already is one, but it's not a sticky

I was going to suggest this too, but one thing is that people can have legitimately bought sniped names without knowing it was sniped.

In this case I feel as if they should post any proof they have that they bought the name.

I support this though its like listing max mental logins to blacklist them so would help the market overall a lot

That works actually. I can support this but it will need to be clearly outlined on how someone can provide proof they own the name.

The problem with this suggestion is the idea that you can buy a name that was sniped legitimately. As in, paying for that name legitimately and unknowingly buying a sniped name.

Even so, I have no qualms about such a list and while I believe it has been denied before, I would like to see it implemented. Name sales is a toxic section and such a list may help clean it up a bit. Even so, I would like to take it further.

    1. Creation of a name blacklist that lists names that have been proven to have been sniped.
    2. If an individual on Sythe had been found to be selling a name that was proven sniped, they will be held responsible regardless of how they obtained the name. We will not be able to prove they sniped the name; however, they will need to pay the amount lost of a sniped name.

This will possibly hurt big sellers has names jump around a lot, but properly document where you purchase your names from and be aware of who you are purchasing from and it shouldn't be much of a problem.

So, tldr yes I am a fan of your suggestion, but can I get community input on its expansion as outlined above.

I disagree with #2, Its a free market, Sythe cannot railroad people who unknowingly buy sniped names, failure to research does not allow staff to make people pay for other peoples sniping. You would essentially be potentially forcing completely innocent users to pay for a snipers scam.

    That is not ok.

    It's a no from me.

I think this gets tricky when it comes to timing of the snipe. If I lose the name 'Rarename2000' and then 1 month later I find out that another user is selling it, this is hard to expect them to be responsible for something as a multitude of transfer of ownerships could have happened. This thus puts the blame on one individual when it very well could have passed through multiple sellers as it's not uncommon for Name Sellers' to flip each other.

    1. Now the argument could be "Well, just trace it back to the first seller of the sniped name and ban them!"

    - Okay, true, but how do you deal with people using throwaway accounts just to rid of the sniped names for a quick sale? Do we now just punish the person who bought it legitimately?

If that question can be answered contently then I'd support a blacklist, but it'd be very tricky to implement.

#2 would almost exclusively affect the whales of the name market and I've responded to free-market again and again: it is not an all-encompassing answer to anything that limits user market freedom.

The "research" would constitute a do not buy list stickied with names we know are sniped. This would allow sniped names back into the community, but in a manner that the original seller/buyer are not at a loss.

The above is in no way final, just an idea.

Edit: on mobile, Sinatra I'll respond to your post once I am at a computer.

Too many issues and time needed to actually make this work. Don't think it's possible especially since it's a toxic part of the sythe market. With a free market and new people into the market buying names, can't really protect them, and when a scam does happen, nothing can be done.

I support this completely. I thought there already WAS one, but after searching multiple times throughout the forums, I ended up having to post my DnB names as RAS reports and randomly in the Name Request Thread.

If anyone gets their name sniped, why shouldn't we be able to report that its curently owned by a sniper?

I don't see any problems with having a sniped or DnB name list. This is slightly similar to having a "Do not Rent" or "Do not buy" account lists for the Account rentals and Account sales sections.

If someone wants to sell a name that was previously sniped on the list, then all they have to do is prove that they purchased the name legitimately.

If someone wants to report a name, all they should need is proof of sale/proof of purchase.
No one would be able to randomly report names in this case. I am assuming we will see much less name snipes, as it will become much more risky and difficult to resell sniped names when they are listed in a DnB thread.

I'd be happy to help maintain such a list if it were made, however I don't see it doing much.

Does xXNameBoi69xxX who just made his account on Sythe a day ago care that the name he's buying is sniped? Probably not as long as he gets the name, he'll just quit Sythe after buying it.

I remember making this point before - if someone likes a name, they will purchase it. It won't matter to them where it came from because they like it. There's a reason the serial scammers are around, people are willing to take that assumed risk of an account/name recovery.

Forcing these people to pay the amount for the sniped name isn't really fair, there is no malicious intent. They just want to buy a name for themselves. They can always claim ignorance to the "do not buy" list, and is a new user gonna cough up a few hundred dollars to keep their Sythe account? Not a chance.

I love the idea, I love cleaning up name sales. Tmoe is doing a good job of helping us do it. But I don't think this particular idea is worth pursuing. That said, I'm always happy to help.

I've seen this suggested 50 times and for same reason, as every other times, I will not be supporting this,
It's not like an runescape account were the original owner can always recover,
We cannot tell if a name sold 8 years ago is still in the hand of sniper/Scammer, it could be in hands of legit sales man,

    But P.S
    ty for free post count.

I wouldnt make it a sticky, but people should be allowed to list off sniped RSNs to prevent future sales of it

Bumping this to see what people think. Even if it's not a sticky, perhaps making a mega-thread of names so that people can at least see that they have a bad/sketchy history. Would obviously just get bumped when a new name is added, which, unfortunately would probably keep it on the 1st or 2nd page.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I'm going to change my viewpoint on this. I don't think this is a good idea, as it's incredibly hard to prove a name was sniped. Never mind proving WHO sniped it, that's a completely different story.
