Im thinking of hosting a pokemon battle tourney in the future, so this may come to light but not this specific game in general.

 

A Pokemon battle tourney is less 'casual' though. Having to grind IV and EV and stuff like that is not very fun in my opinion. Would like a casual event like the Pixelmon event. Also you arent taking in account the advantages a PokeMMO specific event might have for the Sythe website in terms of PR.

 

Trust me, this is something different. The way I'm planning it, u wont need to grind for that stuff. But more to come on that later after the current tourney is finished.

 

Dont think a lot of people would like a very specific, niche, event which only caters to battling. We already have plenty of 1v1 boring tournaments. Make a real MMO event, like the Pixelmon was, were people have to compete real-time and not 5 minutes once a week.

Thinking about it. Your idea and my idea could be combined in one event. This would make both sides happy. For example, you could incorporate a dueling side to the total event. This way you cater to everyone their wishes.

What about a bit of input from the people within the community that are interested with Pokemon (afaik).

Just back from a quick shower.
The more I think about this specific idea you mention here, the more I would advice the CDT against it.

Pokemon is about exploring and about capturing pokemon. Spawning pokemon with perfect stats to do three battles and then call it a week is just another 1v1 weekly but with the stamp "pokemon" on it. Something like this could work however, but when people have to actually work for their pokemon. If people have to actually work for their pokemon then a dueling side could be a fun aspect to the entire event as a whole. Including this also means the event will never go stale as people would continiously try to improve their team.

Also tagging a few more people which I think would be interested in something like this, so could have valuable feedback @GuyFrank @Hello Its Me @iFreshMez

They would be required to make a new account. Obviously one cant use an already existing account which would benefit the person.

Quickly downloaded the game, played it a long time ago and couldnt remember almost anything about the game. There are a few points which make it harder to run an event on PokeMMO. The trading example you named is one of them, there is also an in-game shop where you can buy exp and droprate multipliers.
An alternative is to play it offline (single-player) and compete with eachother like that. Do-able as well and still ensures the Pokemon feeling while competing with eachother, but you dont actually play with eachother on the same server like an MMO.

Going to sleep now, any alternative ideas are welcome as well.

 

Done a couple hours of research in regards to both PokeMMO and other alternatives which were offered by people on Skype. The other alternatives in my research were inferior to PokeMMO, so I will only argumentate holding the PokeMMO event. The research is shown in the tab below.

I will quickly go by the points mentioned in the messages from and to @TySimpson earlier in this thread, which were about problems which could arise from holding the PokeMMO event.

There are pay-to-win items, how would we make sure people wont use this?
While there are pay-to-win items in PokeMMO, the only item that could be used to gain an unfair advantage in an event like the one I am suggesting is:



Luckily there is an easy way to make sure people are not using this item. When people are using the above item they will get the following message added in their screen:


Donator Status active

So just screenshare with people once a week or let them upload a short video which shows the ingame screen. With the second option make sure they walk around/resize the client a bit so it's harder to edit/fake the recording.

How to make sure the account wasnt made before the event started?
This one is very easy, just have every participant post the following screenshot:



This screenshot includes both the account creation date (in this case 2017-05-18) and the time played.

As it is an MMO people can trade. How would we make sure people wont gain an unfair advantage through this?
It is true that people can trade in PokeMMO, but that doesnt mean they can get an unfair advantage through this. I have split this question up in multiple sections.

Pokemon trading
The "Owned" and "Caught OT" should be the same. Otherwise the user has bought Pokemon from other people.



Blackmarket trading
I searched for what must have been one hour but I could not find a single site that sells in-game items for PokeMMO. Getting an unfair advantage through RWT'ing is therefor very unlikely. Think it is being controlled pretty hard by the GMs. Even in the rare instance that people were able to get goods through a blackmarket without getting banned it would not be very useful as the only item with a real advantage is the Donator Status. Which has been made impossible with the text in the previous paragraph about pay-to-win items.

Item trading
Because of the earlier point about blackmarket trading being impossible, this means the item trading field for everyone is the same. Everyone has the same odds. Item trading with other people should therefor be allowed. This means people with good merchant skills might take that route in the game, people with good human skills that route in the game in the hopes of friends with benefits and other people the grinding way. This only adds to the challenge.

In the above tab you can see my suggestion is perfectly executable. With the conclusion of PokeMMO being a fine game to hold the event on I have made a draft of my suggestion. The minirank challenges and prizes have been carefully picked to not de-value other people their miniranks and to be challenging.

I really like this idea @Buyacc also like how it's emphasizing not giving Pokémon out that will directly effect other valueable Pokémon ranks such as dragonite that I just sold. Although I personally wouldn't have the time to participate in this event I think that it's a great idea and a great community event that a lot of people would be interested in. Stuff like this will help the community grow. Good job putting all of the time and effort into this man. Pictures and everything. Looks great.

 

Seems like a cool idea Don't really have any objections or suggestions. Looks like a straightforward event.

 

tl;dr: @Buyacc's plan to get a ton of free shit.

I like the idea, however, most of the criteria seem to take way more time than the average Sythe member is willing to put in (I say average because I know you take Sythe events a lot more seriously than the median user and put more time into them than most).

Events should be made in a way that everybody, regardless of time, can participate and have a fair shot. It shouldn't be a competition of whoever can no life a game the hardest.

Making events like these just demotivates people that don't have the time other Sythe members do, and in turn, will produce low user participation with only one person reaping all of the miniranks and rewards (but you already knew that, didn't you? )

Anyways, that's just my two cents on the matter.

 

The rewards, as said in the red text in the beginning, are ment to be challenging. If people would be able to get all the miniranks in a couple of hours of playing two things would happen. The miniranks would be worthless like seasonal miniranks as everyone would have every minirank, demotivating people to even participate. Secondly the event would be dead after 1 week because everyone would already have every prize and would see no other reason to continue playing the event.

The following is educated guessing. It should be possible for everyone to get the first three minirank prizes in approximately a week, playing casually. Then everyone would have three weeks left to win the other miniranks. Rayquaza is the easiest of the miniranks left and would most likely not take more than one or two days casually playing to catch it. Milotic is the next hardest minirank just because you have to level it to level 100, taking a few days as well. The Chansey is arguably the hardest and could take like 6 days casually playing. The 'One Evolution Tree' prize is for the people that finished all the other miniranks early, so they still have something to do.

So now calculating the above times I mentioned to see what kind of period of time would be realistic for a casual user to get all the miniranks:

• - Would take less than a day

• - Would take like 4 days from the point of obtaining the above minirank.
  
  
• - Would take like 6 days.
  
  
• - Would take like 2 days.
  
  
• - Would take like 4 days
  Total time: 20 days for all miniranks playing casually.

The event would last a total of 30 days, so even if you do not have a lot of time you should easily be able to get the above miniranks. Again, that people will have to spend some time to win the prizes is not more than logical. This event isnt for everyone to play for a few days, get all the miniranks and then move on (like you seem to suggest). It is a competition where people will have to really play the game and if they do they will have plenty of time to get all the miniranks.

 

@Buyacc I love the idea, it's been thought out extremely well. After reading @Admires reply though I agree with him.

An event relating to PokeMMO would be cool though.
