New job, but is it really worth it

So basically I have been offered a new job, starting this tuesday where i am a sales representative.
My job is currently horrible earning $50 a week of one shift ever 1-2 weeks (McDoanld's are assholes)

Problem is that job has no fixed pay rate... it's 30% commission.

I am working 3 days a week there, is it worth it?


(I am pretty good at selling products,e.g runescape gold and CSGO Skins, but never physically advertisements or anything)

 

Did you find it on Craigslist? Sounds like a scam.

 

In The Netherlands as a student there are a lot of sales jobs where you go out on the street and try to sell shit to people or go door to door to sell shit. I honestly hate these kind of jobs, especially since you get paid based on how well you are able to sell the shit you are trying to sell. I always get the feeling like "O so I am getting 30% of the money of a sale? Nice then you are making 70% profit off of me".

Just my opinion but, again, I really dislike those kind of jobs.

 

Only 1 percent out people can live on commission, what you have to think is if the job you are going to be doing makes that much money why cant he give you a basic?

 

This is one of those "scam" companies that hires anyone. They will probably actually pay you for any sales you get but real sales positions pay salary AND commission and not just commission only

 

What product/service do you have to sell and how (door to door, cold calling, etc.)?

 

It's a call centre in Melbourne city
"sales of advertising and sponsorship for major Not For Profits, B2B."
They are actually on a major road within Melbourne

Edit: real question could i be earning more than mcdoanld's, that's 1 shift a week.

I believe they bypass the wage payments due to the fact it's a based on charity

 

If you don't have sales experience (Sythe isn't sales experience) you should just stick with your Mcdonalds job. Cold calling can be really stressful.

 

Why not keep your current job and try the new job for a week? That should give you a small sample size to make your final decision.

 

Yeah since McDoanlds hasn't given me shifts for 2 weeks, i am going to try it for 2 weeks and see how it goes.

 

Problem with that is that, do they hire australians xD

 

This reminds me of when I was in college and noticed on some of the blackboards during certain classes that someone had written an advertisement for a sales job claiming you could make up to $5,000 USD per week. Needing money as a college student I decided to give them a call and leave a message. The next day they called me back and informed me that I would be selling their product door to door and would have to spend $250 of my own money for the sample kit in order to present the item to potential customers. In turn they were advertising that you would make money, but were actually trying to have you as a customer

 

Doesn't sound too much better than your current job. I suggest finding a job with a fixed pay rate. You'll feel better working with a stable paying job.

 

Hey man, when I moved to Sydney I was pretty desperate for a job so started working for one of these companies.

Sure there's some people that do well and make a good weekly wage but 99% of people will end up taking home like $100 a week for a full weeks work, whilst being talked to like shit for 8 hours a day.

If I were you I wouldn't take it but would go apply to jobs elsewhere. Customer service etc, I ended up applying for basically every recruitment position I could and found a great company. Stayed with them in Syd for a while and have now moved home to the UK to work for them here.

 

I did cold calling for a big company selling advertisment spaces in major magazines, websites and conferences. It was a wonderfull job, but sooooo stressfull. You have to keep scoring, if you dont youre gone. You have to be very persistant and able to handle set backs and bad days.

I loved doing it for a few months, but other than that hell no.

Try finding a job where u can grow and develop yourself, something thats nice on your resume.

Leaving the job, it's so much stress to get one sale, and I panic in those situations.

 

Do not base your monthly livelihood off a commission based job. Look a little harder and find something that will offer you a guaranteed monthly income, it is better for your situation mentally and in the monetary aspect of things.
