Minimum post requirement to enter market

I know a big issue around here lately is the community involvement of new members. What about a minimum post requirement to enter the market? Nothing crazy, even just 5 or 10 posts. The "sorry not enough posts" message could have suggested sections to direct users to Something for All, General Discussion, RS General, whatever.

I don't think this'll get approved but it's just a thought. I think it'd be pretty effective. New users won't immediately leave after taking the time to register just because they need to post 5 times before accessing the market.

If you're worried about spam, that's literally why we have reporting and mods. Not to mention any figment of reputation on here comes with posts, so I don't honestly believe spam would increase much, if at all, with the introduction of a minimum post requirement.

 

Although I would normally close this under "free market" rules, I think if the user of spambots is possible this might be a temporary fix to it.

I highly disagree with Tyler in the feeling that restricting the market is not worth it to stop the spam bots.

The spam bots do not control sythe or its market, you cannot send that message to every wannabe scammer and spammer that if they keep doing it the rules and market will adjust to their whims.

I don't support under the free market issue and the above reason.

 

What prevents someone from scripting bullshit posts automatically? I don't see this being preventative whatsoever. Where there is a will, there is a way.

No support. Some people don't give a shit about posting for the sake of posting and just are here to buy something then dip.

 

The forums aren't gonna "die" but a lot of people come here solely to use the market, if they sign up and then find they have to make some posts, they'll either start spamming or just leave straight away for another site that doesn't have this requirement.

The idea is to hopefully get them involved in the community so that they perhaps stay after they've done their market business on here, but if the very thing that brings someone to this site is the market alone then 9/10 people will only want to come for that and not much else. Forcing people to post elsewhere on the site beforehand is just gonna ask for more spam / non-constructive posts and just general annoyance as some people may just find another site to do business on if they can't do their market purchase straight away.
