You don't have to meet someone in person for them to have a profound impact on your life. Very few people regardless of the medium are capable of leaving a lasting impact on you.

By all accounts Jon, whom I was not lucky enough to know, and Lame, who I was lucky enough to know and can easily say was a positive influence in my life despite me not having actually met him deserve to be mourned.

 

And these people change your day to day life how?

 

Lame changed more than just my day to day life. He helped me with problems I was facing and gave me real world applications for solving said problems. So in that case I would say he changed my life period & my outlook on it. Not a day to day type thing. A permanent thing. Doesn't matter I never met him IRL.

Honestly you'll get no argument from me that in this society people are way too fixated on technology, avoiding face to face conversation and contact like the plague, and all that. But it is definitely possible for someone online to make a real difference in your life. Doesn't just have to be in person.

They change my day to day life as well, because the chat Lame was apart of is great stress relief and just shooting the shit with people. It's one of the biggest reasons I remain on the website. The chat was actually trying to arrange a meet-up with Lame as well, sad to say (to my knowledge) that it never happened.

Ultimately I don't consider my online friends any lesser than my real friends. It's also nice to have online friends because you take all of the bias out of your real-world problems and you know that the advice you get is purely for you and not with any ulterior motives (usually at least).

 

@DaltyF People also do that shit ALL THE TIME in real life (people mourning someone they barely know or didn't know at all). I had a friend IRL with an incredibly small circle of friends that was pretty much an outcast his entire life. But suddenly, when he killed himself by intentionally OD'ING, suddenly the whole world, Twitter, Facebook, etc etc had an outpouring of support. People I knew for a fact that dismissed him or bullied him suddenly offering their condolences for their "friend".

Usually those type people trying to placate their guilty conscience of something. So I mean really it just happens everywhere...real world, online, whatever.

 

You'd have to have met Jon and Lame to understand. Two of the most genuine and humorous people I've met in my entire life despite the horrible situations both of them were in for years. I valued their friendships just as much as my real life friendships. Really cant say that about most people you meet online. They were two diamonds in the rough that had their time on Earth cut far too short and I'd give my left nut to have them back.

 

Soooo, fill me in on what happened to Lame?
