How do you feel about DNT ranks?

I'd recommend reading the official post for DNT ranks before contributing:
Understanding the DNT (Do Not Trade) rank

I'll be straight-forward: I don't see the point in current applications for DNT ranks. Or better said, I don't get why they're so common.

If someone has proven to be a scumbag, why should there be a middleline between banned and unbanned that's so prevalent and accessible? Sythe is a black market; it is inevitable that half the people who sign up are going to be garbage. With that, I think it's fair to say the margin for "error" should be much lower than that of a standard forum.

Sythe has stated in its introductory thread that "most people come for the market, but stay for the rest of what Sythe has to offer." This is definitely accurate, so why pollute "the rest of what Sythe has to offer" with people that failed to prove themselves in Sythe's main aspect? More so, there are no such thing as people who are sleezy with other people's money but have dazzling personalities.

Don't get me wrong, I understand why DNT ranks exist. I just don't think they are applied the way they were initially implemented for. Also, I don't just flat out hate anyone with a DNT.

Feel free to add some opinions and inputs, even if you don't agree at all. And to the staff and higher-ups, we'd all love to hear what you have to say about the matter.

pro tip: if you want someone's opinion, don't do tl;dr posts

OT: There's nothing that will change Richard's mind, so we better get used to it.

How do you feel about DNT ranks?

It's not a tl;dr post. The question is in the title and my opinion on the matter is literally the first two sentences separated from the rest of the post. And just to disprove that idea anyways, this is one of the most viewed threads on SFA:
Trumps proposal for Temp Muslim Ban

I'm not campaigning to get rid of DNT ranks and I'm not refusing to comply to rules, I gave an opinion on them and asked about other people's thoughts on it. That's called discussion.

Even so, if the staff was not open to suggestions, there wouldn't be an entire section dedicated to suggestions for the website that is frequently browsed by staff members including "Richard" (you know, that dude we're all on first name basis with apparently). Why are you speaking on everyone else's behalf?

Yeah, I get that. Like I said, I get why they are there, I just think they might be using it as an alternative to perm bans out of reluctance. Previously banned users coming back with DNTs just cleans the market, not the other half of the website.

what was up with your ban?

I wish they would make it mandatory for DNT users to have a payment plan for their scam victims if they have any, but overall I don't mind it too much, sort of neutral.

How do you feel about DNT ranks?

Honestly, I agree and don't agree at the same time for various reasons.

First of all, DNT is a really tricky subject since it's applied to a user based on the staff member's judgement and interpretation of the incident. It's not like a scamming ban, where you have evidence that some rule specifically was broken, but simply something suspicious is going on. In other words, the process which is used to determined weather or not a user gets the title is purely subjective.

That being said, the main favorable point I have towards the DNT title, is the fact that many times the user in fact was trying to scam, or was acting in a very suspicious manner, and although we never get to see what happens after a TWC, most likely any other deals they engage with afterwards are with a middleman due to the other party taking the necessary precautions. In turn, the whole community is safer by it.

On the other hand, going back to my initial point of it being subjective, I think it leaves a lot of room for error when applying a DNT rank. Imagine if there was no in-between, and with just a bit of suspicion a user were to get banned or punished in a harsher way. Wouldn't be fair either.

I'll finish off my using myself as an example. About 4 years ago I was doing a deal with a guy, and we agreed on using a OMM do help us with the transaction. However, for some reason (don't remember, was 4 years ago) just before going forward with the deal I left the skype conversation and never talked to the guy again. No harm was done, no scam was attempted, I simply left the conversation.

Well, the guy ended up reporting me and I was hit with a TWC title right off the bat. Ironically so, the gentlemen was banned 4 days later for disputing a payment he had made for a RS account.

Could it be better implemented? yes. Should it be eliminated? no.

DNT ranks are a slap on the wrist and a mockery substitute for a ban. Part of the incentive not to scam is that not only are you removed from the market, you are removed from the community as well. Anyone who intends to scamquit and profit knows they are forfeiting their future in the market anyways. The DNT rank eliminates the community incentive, while simply allowing scammers to persist on the site for reasons such as optics.

Meh. More activity. Some of them actually seem ok and I think some aren't DNT because they are scumbags. I wish the scammers of them would pay back their victims somehow though.

The point of DNT was to basically make it so the forum isn't flooded with banned users and to give people a second chance. I'm not sure how effective it's been, but I think the point of it was to keep the forums active.

Honestly, when it first came and still to this day I actually highly dislike it even though I'm a dnt. In my personal opinion, it encourage's ban evasion. As it give members a small taste of the forums and restricts them from large's part of the forums. I also feel this about the pardon system as well.

It's good, people won't trade them, but however the persons can browse the forums and post, it's like a ban with perks.

It would be perfect if it had some sort of a repayment plan. It has key advantages which is why it wont be removed that were mentioned by Sythe.

It does feel like a ban with perks though as mentioned by @MaxChamp.

    I uh
    I dont

I was talking about DNT ranks being given to scammers who would have been formerly banned. Thought that was clear.
