Reduce the join date requirement for major name changes

@Sythe asked that I make this a public suggestion. Currently we have a requirement of a join date 2 years prior to making a major name request, personally I think this is too long and reducing the length to just 1 year would encourage donations at little to no detriment. Would like to hear other thoughts and opinions on this

 

I Personally dont have a problem with that, could something also be added about doing a minor name changed wouldnt effect requesting a major name change as well?

 

Yes. Name change requests are processed through the staff team. We carry proper checks to see if there is anything that would disallow a name change request. Pointless having a 2 year time limit.

 

Yeah, very good idea. This would get more people donating and 2 years is such a long time.

Did you donate to $300 before or after your minor change? Personally I think you should be eligible. The way I see the rule is that it is intended to prevent 2 major name changes on the same account, not a minor and a major

 

Yes Yes Yes, maybe make a vouch requirement in lieu of the two year join date, or make it $500 donor to change name.

Either way, I was a noob when joining, and definitely could use a better name, I'm not out to switch my name for bad intent.

I'm making a slight clarification to the rule then since this is a pretty rare case and there's no real reason to keep someone from doing a minor and a major name change provided they meet the other requirements. You'll be eligible to request a major name change 6 months after your minor name change was approved

 

I support this, I never understood why this was actually a requirement. Would encourage more people to donate like @MJrules said, he donated just to have his name removed.

 

Voting yes on this. Was a little discouraged when I saw 2 years. Definitely want to change my name sooner than that if I'm going to be donating 200$.

I support the 1 year or even a 6-month requirement assuming that the globals+ do their due diligence in determining whether or not to approve the change.

 

Tried to do this back when I was staff, absolutely lower it to 1 year. Good job guys

Definitely think 2 years is way too long, 1 year sounds very reasonable and a good amount of time members should wait before making a major name change.

 

Uh, yeah. I've been asking Big Rich to change this for awhile as 2 years is very long.
