everytime a new round of promotions comes out people always get butt hurt and cry about who got what. If sythe is really a community why does the community have absolutely zero say in who gets to serve them. Because whether the staff likes it or not they are here to serve the entire community, that's what the job is, taking time out of your day to help us the members of sythe in all matters we can't handle our selves and to maintain good conduct throughout the website. But instead it is only left to the USL to decide who we get LIKE IT OR NOT. So why is there no way for us to have a voice.

The community should have atleast power to reverse an appointment, after all what would staff be without the community..... Nothing, a bunch of yellow red and colorful UIs and that's about it. @Sythe Richard I know you understand politics, if the community doesn't have a voice in who decides the rule makers and enforcers than it is an autocracy. I don't think that that is what the forums should be.

MAKE SYTHE GREAT, let us choose who has the honor of telling me what I can and can't post.

100% complete support. This may not be politics but as solo said we are a community and communities typically run better on democracy or at least some sort of democracy. I would add into the suggestion that a poll be open for one week and at the end of the week it be closed out and majority rule.

Politics aside. I agree somewhat a disagree as well. Agree because what your saying is right... disagree because in practice I don't think it will work and politicians are lying pricks.

What are we aiming for politics? with campaigns? It would become a popularity competition and you would vote for people that are your friends but they wouldn't probably be good in the job.. I feel USL know what to seek in staff members... but I guess us having a say as well wont be horrendous? (I've not seen the latest promotions)

We always listen to legitimate feedback but staff appointments are not democratic elections and you should be thankful they aren't. You want people chosen on merit not popularity. Think of staff like the judiciary rather than a parliament.

Even if it was a private poll where only USL could see the results, that way the public is atleast involved in some way, you read what we say about your nominations see the result of the poll and then make your choice on if you want to promote them. The community need some sort of involvement

If you read my last post I brought up that maybe a system where we don't have any real power in decisions but instead the community gives feedback before the promotion is actually implemented.

And in relation to my first post it in no way would be an election USL is still the deciding factor but the community should be able to say no to their decisions, the USL still chooses who goes on the board and who the prospective mods would be

I agree with implementing something like this. Something official for each new staff member because the way it's currently handled is biased.

Say, for example, I make a thread about Yankiee and say she doesn't deserve moderator and she fell for a simple scam blah blah, then a white knight mod/admin like Astro or Shin might close the thread for whatever reason. If there is an official way for us to provide input on promotions then that would be great as it would limit the bias because the feedback would be requested/sanctioned.

This is under the assumption that staff have the ability to select merit based traits which isn't necessarily true. You're also assuming that the new moderators staff appoints aren't based on who kisses the most ass on the feedback sections and throughout the other sections as well. Simply stating that letting the community have a say in staff promotions would result in popularity contests might be true, however, it doesn't seem to be very different right now.

Last application process was a disaster with a retention rate of barely 50% of sectionals, some of them simply going inactive right after their promotions.

I agree with the thread though. I believe the community should be able to have a say in who staffs. I don't even recognize three out of the four people who got promoted and I'm on Sythe everyday.

One of the new moderators literally got scammed earlier today by an impostor and another newly appointed moderator still has outstanding debts which he didn't pay in his pardon three months ago.

I won't defend my idiocy regarding the scam but me being personally scammed doesn't add into if I can read a report and evaluate proof in future cases, enforce rules, or any other moderator tasks. Mistakes were made and I lost money for it, end of story. That's all I have to add, figure since a few ppl are still trolling and/or keep mentioning me being scammed as if it should have effected my application.

People will always be bitter. Everyone gets jealous when others get chosen as mod because they want it too. If these new mods don't perform they get demoted its really that simple.

These aren't paid employees. Even if they contribute something they are an asset to Sythe. What benefit is it to him to demote someone?

You being scammed by an impersonator (one of the oldest tricks in the book) should have indeed effected your application if we're basing the applications on merit, and you know that. I don't know how you fare on other aspects of moderation, but being scammed by an impostor as a moderator is quite appalling.

Imo forgetting to ask for a PM doesn't equate to the inability to do a job.

Forgetting to ask for a PM directly correlates to general bad decision making and not knowing the website well enough which isn't a trait a moderator should have. Moderators should essentially be role models for the regular community members in terms of how to conduct themselves on the forum as well as proper security measures.

Forgetting to ask for a PM and getting impostor scammed is just poor practice for members who have been on the forum for more than a month, let alone a moderator.

It definitely does not directly correlate. When I searched an account via c+p from a thread, only one popped up. I let my guard down because of it. Bad decision yes, but that doesn't speak to my character. If anything, being scammed has now made me more vigilante and prepared to take extra precautions.
