Guides Section is Cancer

First off, if you believe nothing in this sections needs to change then you really need to leave this thread before I just chode slap you. Within this section I will be talking primarily about the "RuneScape Guide & eBook Sales" portion of this section because I have had the most experience with it.

1. 98% of the guides are trash
2. People leave good reviews for trash guides
3. 100% of the info in those guides can be found on the web if you do enough research
4. Ambiguity in what constitutes a "Good Guide"
5. Guide sellers are looking to make a quick buck off new people

There are two solutions

1. Remove the cancer
2. Fix the cancer (Mods must review guides to make sure their descriptions are legitimate and that the guides are not common knowledge, a "Runescape Guide Reviewer" and yes I can do this)

If you can honestly look me in the eye and tell me there is nothing wrong with this section then I suggest u go speak with @Gun about how you both are upstanding members of Sythe.org

I agree that alot more moderation should be going on there. Anyone reviewing a guide reviewer could not be fully educated on the subject and it might seem like an amazing method to them, but very accessible information to those that have researched it.

 

Some moderation there would be nice, but potentially hard to enforce. I support though.

 

I agree. Its not just that I know the method and she doesnt. I have put 5-10 hours in researching every single goldfarming method online, every single script request people have asked for. I know what is out there and what isnt. I agree that many people buying guides havent done the research I have, but it doesnt mean they should get shit for their money

complete support I bought one quite some time back and it was common knowledge, stuff I had been doing for quite some time. potato cactus collecting.

 

But to be fair those guides are meant to be like "I'm paying you to research and put this information together because my mom's credit card says I don't have to do it myself".

 

Tbh, It's a hit or miss kind of thing... nowadays anything and everything is on the internet somewhere if you look hard enough. If you think our section is cancer go to that hacking forums place and check their guide marketplace... people spend more time making the graphics look nice than than the actual guides themselves being posted everyday all day... I'm not saying there isn't problems with the current section but the rules are more specific on what is allowed or not allowed which weeds out over 95% of bad ones . Guides are mainly for the absolute clueless who want to get informed, for example in botting what may be common "knowledge" like how to set up a vpn/vps may not be for someone else. Many guides also come with some sort of "support" which means a real person can assist them.

The problem is when guides start posting stuff like "Make 500 dollars a day - NO INVESTMENT NEEDED" that's when the real scamming comes in, but a lot of guide makers on this forum spend a lot of time making them and just end up looking bad when another comes to our site to make a quick buck off the foolish who fall for things too good to be true. It just needs maybe more rule updates on whats allowed/not allowed but otherwise it's a perfectly fine market.

 

I totally agree. But who the hell uses that section? Only 'new people' do, like you said. And most of those people are looking for a guide because they don't want to have to "do enough research" online. You can figure out almost anything by "doing enough research", but these newbies are looking very clear and concise solutions from veterans.

Plus, there's definitely not enough activity in that section to warrant moderators to monitor it all the time.

 

Free market.

Sections can be aids if the sellers there want them to be.

Some markets are just shit/toxic(aka the guides/ebooks sections on every forum).

No reason to change it as far as I'm concerned, if people want to sell toxic/shit products, they have that right on sythe.org :shrug:.

As long as its not publicly released or common knowledge, sell on as far as I'm concerned.

Literally the only people who buy e-guides are the lazy asses, you can find all the information in the world simply by googling for 10 mins or so.

That being said, I do support a separated Mod purely for the guides section.

I agree there are a lot of trash guides. Especially the ones which focus only on money making methods within runescape. (making 500k per hour doing blahblahblah etc).

However a guide as it should be, is providing value to the customer:

- Selling them information
- Saving them hundreds of hours of researching
- Introducing them to something they may not have previously knew existed, such as a form of marketing

One/all of the above in exchange for a one-time fee is fair enough right?

Especially if you offer a 30 day refund guarantee so the buyer can either stop watching netflix and eating pizza, or they can do nothing and receive their money back.

Since when did universities/colleges offered a refund?

Since when did gyms offer refunds to the fat and lazy who didn't make it through the first week of january?

If the guide was literally "how to perform a google search", then you'd be 100% correct. But unfortunately you're not, and I'm afraid this is how many business spheres work. Provide value in exchange for money. Spend some money to save time. Invest in yourself and learn something new.

I respect your point of view, so please do not perceive this as an attack. I'm simply providing a point of view from the other end of the spectrum.

 

If you believe a guide is fake or not in compliance with the rules please make sure to contact a moderator. With the way guides work people cant "pre screen" guides, so if somebody buys a guide and its not in compliance with the rules they just need to report the user selling the guide

We used to have an "official guide verifying team" however this was when I joined Sythe. There are no immediate plans to rreimplement the team.
