Not sure if their is a specific ruling on this, although i have seen staff ban users who deny posting on a home ip address.

I think there should be an official rule where if Staff requests a user to post from a home ip the user has 1 hour to do so or will be banned.

The reason for doing this is to prevent ban evaders from coming back without repaying their victims as well as a Sythe account possibly being hacked.

What would you do if someone legitimately isn't home o.o?

I've been on vacation before where I couldn't of posted from a home IP for ~2 weeks because I'm at a lodge.

I'm fine with the idea but the 1 hour thing seems a little strange?

If I'm accused of being a ban evader and told to post from a home IP, and I'm literally at a lodge for a couple days or a week, I get banned ...?

Btw: I support, But I don't agree with the timeframe mentioned in OP, 1 hour is a little low, a day to comply seems reasonable.

There would have to be some sort of suspicion to suspect that a current Sythe user is hacked.

However, regarding newer users and or users who only user a VPN and or VPS they will be required to post at least once on their home ip.

Works for me provided there's a standing suspicion.

I support this fully now :).

Can you clarify what you mean by suspicion, there are loads of trolls here who could say so and so is hacked. And I'm sure the staff team doesn't know everyone on a personal basis. Generally liking the idea thought could potentially stop a lot of scams from happening.

Older users coming back - 2008 account , 100 post count comes out of the blue.

Inactive donors who come back but post from a drastic ip change etc.

Thought about a similar suggestion and having like every xxx (random number) or higher donor post from a home IP as well.

Not random. Everyone. Lets say the xxx is $200 Donator then every $200+ Donator would have to post from home IP. Why would someone decline :)

Well I'm a 500$ donor and I currently live in Japan so I would be 1000000% unable to post from my original ip for the next 3+ years, I think this is stupid. Guess I'm a little bias but you have to keep in mind people move, go to college etc.... They are not always going to be able to post from they're original ip on demand. And if so you might as well ban me right now because I know for a fact that I cant

Right but you would be able to prove that to an extent.

I'm making this suggestion due to the fact the user @Racks on Racks got away with this yet only ever appeared on a VPS.

I feel as though no one ever had suspicions of him due to the fact he was a high donor.

Support. I know it's common practice to ban users who are acting suspicious until they post from a home IP to prove that they aren't hacked. Makes sense to put it into the rules officially.

Definitely need to make some sort of appendage for college kids and service folk. Not sure how you can work around that tbh. Unless you consider the consistent usage of current IP as home IP? I.e. if I moved to college in August, and I was asked to post from my home IP in December because of suspicion, that would make my college IP my home IP.

If they have never ever posted from a home IP then yes, ask them to come off of it and just show the staff your real IP. Only the staff can see your IP address so there should be no excuse here.

For existing or returning users though, unless the staff know them personally then it will be difficult to know for sure. People move house, go to Uni, go on holiday, or they even change ISP giving them a completely different location. Obviously friends of staff will be fine but others will run into trouble verifying who they are.

Why would you give them 1 hour? Ban them and deal with it later, better to be safe than telling someone they have an hour left to make a profit out of the account they hacked...

Sorry exxy, but unfortunately, I don't think this is the right rule to implement. As some already stated, we move, we work, we go out with friends for a couple of hours, we go on vacation, ... In short, we have a life. We can't really say "You have 1 hour to post from your home IP", since we're not 24/7 on our computer.

Forcing newcomers to post on a home IP will just reduce the number of new members we will have. If someone is actually new, and just don't want to/can't post from a home IP because he either cares about his personal information, has a valid reason to hide it or always have to use a public IP for some reason, he won't signup on Sythe when he sees he's forced to post with a home IP. Plus, it's not really attractive to someone visiting the site for the first time.

Don't get me wrong, I still think that you're onto something, and that maybe there's a way this could work without affecting the growth of the site too much. However, with the introduction of the DNT rank, and the constant change of the forum, we can clearly see that Richard does not want, in any way, something that could result in less members or someone not signing up on his forum.

    Just my opinion tho

Great idea as long as the time limit for posting the home IP is not 1 hour. As Matt said, people have lives so give them sufficient time to post from home and if they still won't comply then would be the time to reprimand them.

honestly i hate the "post from a home IP" stuff we do to disputing users. i wish there was a way around it that didn't involve matthew spending weeks on some tool for staff to use instead. but i don't think this is the right approach, my feelings coincide with @Matt's
