Bump Button

One of the features we've been toying around with for a while is the bump button. It's basically a button on the first post of your threads which you can click to bump the thread. The idea is to keep post spam to a minimum by allowing people to bump without having to post something pointless like "Bumping" or "Online."

Another component of the bump button is that you will be able to bump a thread early (before 8 hours) in exchange for Sythe Gold.

The way the button works is like this:
1. You click the button on the first post in your thread.
2. If it has been 8 hours, your thread is bumped instantly.
3. If it has been less than 8 hours, but more than 6 hours, you are offered a chance to purchase an early bump with Sythe Gold.
4. If you choose to buy a bump, your thread is bumped instantly. If you choose not to buy a bump, you have to wait.

This thread is to gather suggestions and feedback on how this button should work and to answer other questions like:
1. Should the bump button only be available in forums which have bump restrictions?
2. In forums without bump restrictions, should bumps be unlimited or still limited to some sort of time frame like 4 hours?
3. When should early bump be available? Currently we're looking at after 6 hours (2 hours early).

Any constructive feedback or comments would be appreciated. We'd like to release this feature, possibly in limited forums, within the next day or two.

 

Do you mean the early bump should be after 5 hours or the overall bump timer? Please be specific.

Correct. If you bump you're the last poster technically, so you won't be able to reply for 8 hours as it would be bumping (unless of course someone else replies).

 

We're doing it based on statistics. Essentially ownership of sythe gold falls in a normal distribution. Remove the outliers (anything more than 3 std deviations from the mean) then sum the remaining gold. This is regarded as gold in circulation. Bumping up to 2 hours early will cost 0.1% of gold in circulation or about 250 sg ATM. We'll adjust this if it proves to be too expensive.
