I'm just here so the men don't get too frustrated with their job.. ;)
    *Joking*

I personally don't agree with this as I've said to a few of the staff members, staff do a 100 things right and then we do 1 thing wrong and everyone expects our heads like we're not human beings who are capable of making mistakes.
Staff made a mistake, get over it, globals/admins of passed promotions have served the site well, don't forget that because one promotion turned out crappy.

It's not 1 mistake and 100 things right. It's 100 things wrong that the staff refuses to admit are wrong and one thing they admit as wrong.

After discussion in USL, we've made the following change to the way moderator applications progress through voting:
We have not yet decided to what extent we want to consider normal users' opinions on promotions, but I think this is a step in the right direction.

applicants could have lots of "normal user friends" such as the gold sellers or people could pay people to vote for them. Not a good idea.

So you're trying to argue the fact that the community vote makes no difference in the voting procedure, then what purpose does it serve? You know as well as I if say 50 people vote no because they don't like someone and 30 vote yes, it will persuade certain staff opinion on the vote. Horrible idea, and I stand by my original post that this is possibly the worst idea ever to be suggested.

I say if they're applying then their application should be public and we should have a chance to vote on it. If they're here to moderate the community, shouldn't the community have a say in who we think would be best suited? I'm not saying our votes should literally count for anything, but just so the staff have some opinions to go off of.

If you wouldn't want people to see your qualifications and your application to be public, why would you be applying? I'm not quite sure what the application is or anything, but if it included anything fairly personal (I'm not talking description of previous jobs) then I could see why you wouldn't want that to be public. I'd recommend just leaving the personal bits out of the public application and only letting the staff to see that.

First off 85-90% of the community are either kids, or trolls. That being said take this as a simple example. Say someone like JohnG applies for mod (the worst person for the job) who's to say he wouldn't just use a VPN, make 100 accounts (like he has done in the past) and vote yes on his poll? There's no way to regulate this suggestion and it would be a complete disaster.

I see where you're coming from but all I'm saying is we should have the chance to see the moderator applications and voice our opinions simply so the staff could get a feel of how the community feels about the applicant. Nothing has to come of it, just give the staff something to work off of, seeing as we are the community.

But I'm sure people would be able to identify someone using a VPN, and a newcomer with a handful of posts' opinion would be as recognized as someone with thousands. Although you could easily have each person posting required to give detailed reasoning as to why or why not they support that person.

I just think the option for us to be able to share our thoughts on each applicant and to view his/hers application should be there. Nothing HAS to come of it.

Thing is, community input beforehand would change the end result of a staff poll. I know the staff and I know how they think and how they work. It would without a doubt change the result in some cases. Putting people who normally wouldn't be in a position of power in power, and denying people who would normally be accepted into a position of power. It would be a complete disaster and would single-handedly be the worst decision ever made in the history of this great site - Sythe.org

What's next, allowing the community to vote on pardons?

More collective opinions on each candidate. I want no community input though.

The suggest a staff thread in the sectional lounge was a good idea. If people post a name (and reasoning) and a lot of sectionals agree, then upper staff make a thread in their section and discuss it there. I really don't like having applications.
