US women now subject to the draft

Makes sense.

 

It's about time, but drafting is in itself an outdated process. If everyone went to war à-la-WorldWar3, it wouldn't be done in trenches and on a battlefield. Drafting for combat positions is silly unless the US were to ever be faced with a direct invasion which is so vastly unlikely.

 

They want equality, so equality is what they're getting. The biggest issue with this is that people are saying its kinda pointless, since women are biologically inferior for war. They have 50% less muscle mass, theyre smaller, less aggresive, etc. Women should parttake in the draft, but shouldn't be deployed to fight on ground. Like during the World Wars, women should serve the soldiers as nurses, cooks, etc.

 

I myself am a 12b (combat engineer) in the u.s army and I have deployed with 11b (infantry) units before and Im all for woman getting thrown in with the draft but not as 11b it sucks as a guy seeing one of your best friends get shot/hit with an ied, I don't belive woman can handle granted some may. Also we have about 100-150lbs of gear on us at all times so if the male getting shot weighs 220 with just his body weight that goes up to atleast 350lb I would not trust just having a female pulling me to save my life no offense. And lastly the combat mos's are all male units which I think is awesome while being deployed having females with would just make things much worse ppl getting attached and then have sex and what not it just would fuck with ppls heads something bad may happen when they are on a mission.

 

If they deserve equal rights and equal pay then they deserve equal treatment IMO. You want the same pay and the same rights as men, then you'll have to be eligible for the same things men are in this country. While I do believe certain jobs within the military should not be open for females because it puts them at risk. Having a female as a member of your team in some cases would result in an inbalance of training because of the fact that she's a female and it may hinder peoples ability to make proper choices

 

exactly and they want to be equal in the military then the number 1 start is the physical training test they should have the exact same standards as male not o you have to do 12 pushups bc your a female lol

 

I feel it should be the same, and into all MOS/duty positions, and the individuals that aren't able to handle the performance standards of that particular mos should be re-classed into something more appropriate. Honestly I do feel that imposing additional physical standards for specific MOS could drastically benefit our fighting force. I know plenty of female AND male medics that I know wouldn't be able to carry me either by themselves or on a litter in a time of need.

 

This is great as long as women receive identical treatment. I don't know much about how the military workd in the US but i'd imagine men must pass a physical to fight. If women can pass that same physical, then by all means let them fight.

See, this I kind of have to disagree with you. Usually people think of a combat/deployed environment to be a constant outside the wire patrol mission, when most of the time it isn't. Sitting in a watchtower and taking effective fire is combat, right? So if a female happens to be on the crew serve at the time and is able to handle themselves/the weapon then I'd say she's fit for combat.

 

I think 'unfit' is a relative term. What makes a person unfit for combat? What makes them unfit to be a soldier? 95% of military life is garrison/logistical environment. Sure, sometimes non combat arms personnel take the occasional IDF or sniper fire or something, but like someone said in another thread, most soldiers don't generally see real combat, and the ones that spend their deployment in regular combat usually can handle it. Unless they find a way to fake their physical fitness status, which is actually not as easy as it sounds, the weak, sick (mental/physical), or overweight don't get deployed. Take it from eye witness experience, at least in the US Army, most command teams aren't at all afraid to cut people loose for failing to meet physical fitness/mental health standards, substance abuse, etc. When the military downsizes, like it currently is, they start from the top down. They cut the old SGMs and officers, the personnel with physical/mental restrictions to make way for younger, healthier soldiers. None of this is propaganda that I've gotten from watching CNN or Fox News or whatever, all of what I say is things I've seen or been associated with.

 

Here, I can agree with you. It is completely wrong to put women into key roles, specifically for the fact that they are women. I still stand with my statement that women can serve in the military, however I believe they shouldn't be deployed, not to be confused with my earlier statement about women in the crew serve, that was just to clarify that combat effectiveness can have individual exceptions. I went to BCT at Fort Benning, which is an all male training site, then afterwards went to JBSA, which is mixed, and having female soldiers caused a shock to most of us that were previously at an all male site, primarily due to the difference in treatment they get. Honestly I do have a personal distaste for female soldiers because of the lower standards they are held to. You're right that it is a self inflicting wound because when I'm expected to run 2 miles in half the time that a female of the same age is it causes me to kind of look down on them.

I guess my final opinion is this:

• Hold women to the same physical and mental standards as men.
• Don't allow women to deploy.
• Impose special qualifications (physical/mental) on combat arms duty positions.
• Promote only on proven merit.
