Online Status Viewable upon Thread List

Current status: Users can see a green dot next to people online when on their profile or on a specific thread.

Suggestion: Users can see a green dot next to people online when they're looking at a the thread list of a sub forum.

Why: Imagine you're looking to buy 100M RS3 and go on the Runescape 3 Gold Selling Thread list and see all these thread selling the same thing for almost the same price -> it can be nice to see who's available for trading and who's not to speed up things.

I'm supporting this because although you can usually just go to their site -- it's nice to see who's online during the day via threads. It should be easy to implement as well.

 

If it's easy implement sure why not. Otherwise I see no necessary reason for it.. just an extra green dot.

 

There's no necessary reason for it. But then again, there's lots of things on sythe that have no necessary reason to be here yet they are as they make the website nicer or look complete.
It's a suggestion thread on improving sythe's use. I feel like it nice to know when a thread owner is on or not when viewing threads. But I respect your opinion

 

so then people idle their accounts on the forum of interest and set up a script to hit control+r every 15 minutes to stay active and appear online. then we're exactly back to where we started

 

Sure but only big groups or people who tryhard to level up their sales would do such thing and big groups are always online with their website anyways. If a guy wants to sell let say 100M RSGP, what would be the point to appear 100% of the time online if he's away - he won't sell it in the time he's away and the buyer may then look elsewhere in the meantime.

I get your point but then lots of thing can be scripted if I follow your statement :/
You can have scripts that create fake account to comment on thread to make them appear as top post, you could have scripts to bump your thread even when you're sleeping, you could have bots that like or respond for sythe gold and resell, you could have anything.

PS: I'm just leading a debate here, I'm not angry or mad some people don't approve. Having it accepted or declined won't change my life by much. Was just suggesting it as it feels like it can be useful for some users (like me).

 

no worries. it's nice to have someone actually make an argument instead of yelling at people.

however:
-fake vouches/self-posting is a bannable offense so that doesnt happen much
-bump bots do exist and are allowed (1 bump per 8 hrs though )

so i think my original statement will likely hold; if there's an advantage to be had, major market players will take it. i think it would be cool and think sythe would be marginally better off if this were enacted but i think its unlikely

 

Oh alright, thanks for clearing that up - as for the fake vouches and such, seems pretty normal it's bannable haha.
Oh Well, will try to come up with something better if it ever comes to mind

 

being online on sythe doesnt mean you are able to trade, and being offline on sythe doesnt mean you are not able to trade. Very little trading is done via sythe PMs

Yeah and having a thread saying you're selling account doesn't mean you still have the account.
And having a mini rank saying XXXX doesn't mean you were around when XXXX was out or that you've earned it, so it can be used to scam players thinking you're trusted/active/... due to having 20 mini ranks decorating your profile.
And... and... and... and... You'll always find downsides to anything in general sadly.

 

Although I'm sure that this would be useful I wouldn't expect this to be a priority. It's not that hard to open individual posts and see if they are online.

Nevertheless, I'd have no problem with this being added.
