Robotics and the Future

I read an article yesterday about AI and I got really curious about it. This guy was really upfront about what his opinions were, sometimes it was actually funny.

Anyways, future technology shows promissing results, such as robots with the object recognition capabilities of a 2 year old, speech of a 4 year old and physical agility of a 6 year old. Basically an almost blind, hyper 4 year old

So, what I wanted to debate with others is if we're going to far in our own knowledge, getting lost in it. Maybe one day, we'll make robots fight wars for us, but then they might turn and kill us all. It's a very common subject to debate upon.

So, should we continue our quest through technology and AI, or quit while we're ahead, and only develop things we can control?

My personal opinion on this is yes, we should continue. Imagine all we could accomplish using AI; we could send them way out in outer space, explore Mars...And no food needed! Only electricity, but that's why wehave the sun. I think this is something to look forward to.

 

the only machines i need are my 360, my comp, and maybe my microwave... Robotics only lead to trouble. think how healthy the indians were. Skinny athletic. Most americans are obese this is because of the remote and runescape

 

I Think no we need to depend more on our selves then rebots and stuff I have enough now even and I am 15 and live on a small farm I think we shouldnt because if we get more stuff we will lose more stuff

 

I think that we should continue as far as we can. I don't think there will be a point where AI can reach the complexity described in Scifi movies. I would be amazed if we could design a robot so that it had true critical thinking skills and learning capabilities. I could be wrong though.

 

Keep it simple I think no need to waste metals and fuel to make some Person + if there are a ton of robots mowing lawns and doign construction millions will lose there jobs

 

Only in movies do robots turn on humans and kill them. Lol, i highly doubt that would happen.

No, this will not occure, it's like saying the robots who create our cars and electronic devices will go and start killing us?..

humans are the smarted animal on Earth, noone will be able to defeat us

and btw..robots will never fight wars for us lol

 

It will happen eventually..

 

I'm not really sure what could happen like in the robots gone crazy science-fiction films.

Willio makes a good point too though..If we DO reach that point where we can develop AI that is self reliant or that can think on its own and do tasks, it could lead to economic devestation...Unless of course you are the distributor of those robots, then perhaps you'd make a lot of money.

 

I think such technology would be a great help to us all , it would make life for us easier as humans and help us to do our daily jobs.However these could cause a few economical collapses due to jobs being cut and people becoming lazier.

But if you think about it our technology is not advanced enough to build proper functioning ones that are actually use full , so we probably won't see them around anytime soon.

Overall i think we should always continue to develop and research these things.It will be a change for the better

 

I believe technology has gone far enough. I mean look at ourselves, we are fat, nearsighted, and lazy. Who knows if this stuff continues, we might find ourselves too helpless to defend ourselves when real trouble comes

 

me to, technology is good as it is, any more bad shit is going to start happening.
