Are Forums Outdated, Or..?

Pr group?

 

I enjoy Reddit for viewing content, but I hate partaking in said content. It's toxic and the up-vote down-vote system encourages hive mind thinking and circle jerking popular, but not necessarily correct or universal ideals.

I think Reddit would be a lot better of a discussion(s) if people didn't have such a boner for karma and virtual points liking a post.

 

There are some subreddits that don't have upvotes or down votes I believe, but they're not very popular (very niche).

One of my personal accounts was recently banned by a mod who was using voter manipulation in order to spread a message of hate on a certain sub, the down votes are definitely being abused and creating hive minds.

 

When I saw your username I was like oh god this kids gonna skewer me lol.

I have been to a couple of subs with no upvotes/downvotes, but it's easy to circumvent that system by clicking on their username and up/downvoting. And tons of people know how to do that.

 

So true they should create a system that prevents this though, but they're so lazy.. It took us years to get the block option.

 

We have a PR team that is supposed to bring people from FB and Twitter onto the forums, don't know how well they're doing though.

 

I don't know about the other sites but the sub reddit could use some work.

I contacted the mods on there and they don't seem very active, also the sub could use a new look. i'd like to have a opportunity to get the sub reddit trending.

 

Some of the mods are active, the others not so much, yet they don't want to bring back former staff members who WANT to come back and are active and WANT to help out. All that aside though, that's Sythe's judgement on whether or not his PR team is working in bringing in new people through different avenues such as Reddit, FB, etc.

 

Are you reffering to the mods currently on the sythe subreddit or the mods on the sythe forum?

One of my peers contacted the sub reddit moderators five days qgo and no one got back to them. We also checked out how long the sub reddit mods have been logged out of their accounts and the last we checked none of them were active for a day or two.

Would I have to contact them inorder to join the PR group?

I wouldn't say outdated per say, more like out grown.

 

I guess so yes - for re Runescape or any other similar game - the demise of Forums could be soon!

 

idk what time zone your in but when i get on there 75k+ on rs3 and 45k+ on osrs

 

The number counter you see on rs3 is a combination of both versions of the game. Rs3 counter - OSRS counter = # of rs3 players

Personally I dislike FB, Reddit, 4Chan. Twitter is a bit different compared to the normal social media's. But overall I much prefer message board type of forums. Has a better sense of community, and definitely for me a better way to navigate. I look at Reddit or 4Chan and think what is this mess. FB is just your friends, family etc, nothing interesting with that really. Twitter is like on the go, a quick update, a quick check in on what people are doing, nothing worth investing time into. Same goes for the other types of "forums".

A forum is like Sythe.org, traditional in the sense it aims at a select topics of interests and builds up a community based on the people that partake in the forum. Obviously the traditional forums decrease over time, as it is based on people who grow up, stop playing specific games (which Sythe.org is based around - games), games develop over time, loads of other factors.

Yeh this new generation of "forums" reddit etc might seem like it is popular, but it has no real motivation about it. It's just there. You read it..you post and you move on to another sub-reddit. And there is such a big difference of topics available on Reddit then there is on traditional forums like this. So it makes sense why more people use it. I wouldn't say its that popular, yeh a lot of people use it but you can be lazy and just post at will. Forums like these you can put more effort into actually doing something you like and expanding on it with the rest of the community.

It's really just two worlds of online forums in one. Each at it's own ends. 4chan/Reddit... Social Media like FB/Twitter/SnapChat/Insta.. and then actualy forums like so. Sythe.org etc.

 

It makes sense for marketplaces to be forum based since they are heavily dependent on sectioning and not as dependent on chronological data. For example, Sythe default layout is section based. Further depth reveals tine order.

For social media, it makes more sense to use other things, because classic social media is much time dependent and much less sectionally dependent. Thats why the default layout for things like reddit and FB are time based, but you can dive into section based formats (subreddits, profiles, etc).

Since New Media is heavily influenced by social media, forums are used as much.

 

I don't blame them tbh, gotta make Rs3 look bigger than the dying game it has become
