Wasn't actually talking about me but anyway. You've just said you're wanting to shift to a community based site yet you've also just said that's just the opposite of how this community works. Where's the logic?

So if you're unable to change how people think why are you trying to shift to a community based site when clearly, as you've said, we're a market site and thats how people like things to be?

 

Never said there was a perfect solution. Just saying if the site is successful because of it's market features then you should push towards that rather than trying to heavily encourage community engagement.

 

You mean the NXT client that came out in April? Yeah it looks nice to you and I when we look and compare to what RS classic used to look like, but honestly it still doesn't compare to other games on the market. Also doesn't change the fact that at its core it's still RS and is severely lacking in features that current MMO's have. Really the only thing that it has going for it at the moment is the fact that you can access a limited amount of content via F2P, and low hardware requirements. 07RS is still more popular than RS3 even with the NXT client you're talking about.

Like I said before, I don't see RS dying in the foreseeable future, but it won't be pulling in large amounts of new users anytime soon when there are better options in the genre. Unfortunately, MMO's just aren't as popular as they were 10 years ago, just look at the most played games at the moment.

 

turns out that people play a game to have fun rather than grind for years to get to the fun

 

in world of warcraft, for example, you quest to gain levels and there's hardly grinding.

in runescape, you chop a log for a year to get to 99, and then do it again with another skill. you basically get the skills up to do the quests.

yeah i agree which is why i think MMO's as a whole are a dying genre. i think first person shooters, MOBA's, and games you can pick up and play immediately are going to be the future of the gaming industry.

for example, in runescape, i've heard there's really no sense of achievement for a lot of people. if my friend has a higher strenght than me, i'll just think, "ok he spent more time training his strength", and it's as simple as that. but if somebody is better at league of legends than me and has played for a shorter period of time than me, i'll think "wow, this player has gotten good at the game fast".

Basically what i'm saying is that in many MMO's, time is the only gap in "skill" if you exclude pking, whereas in other popular games at the moment, there are a lot more factors to skill than just grinding in respect to time spent.
