Need External help

Looking a decent/cheap 1tb external harddrive. My laptop is dying and I need something to put all of my shit on. I'd prefer if it was on Amazon. I don't know which are good or not, if you could help me that would be great .

 

I forget the model but the one I have is an Acer USB3 1TB. It's very quick and I saw them going for $70 CAD not too long ago.

 

You can get a 2TB usb stick from the wish app for like 15 bucks? Bad side it takes like 2-4 weeks to arrive other than that it is as cheap as its gonna get

 

Do NOT buy one of these...... They're cheap chinese knockoffs that will very likely not have a true 2tb capacity, may likely contain pre-installed malware, and will ultimately be slow as fuck and/or become inoperable very quickly.

Ever hear the term "too good to be true"? A 2tb flash drive for 15 bucks raises every alarm there is.

 

Really any of their best sellers will be fine. I have an older version of this and it's been working well for at least 4 years.

 

Of course I have, they have lots of feedback with good reviews, for 15 bucks I'd be happy if it even works because it's such a good deal. I also don't think Wish would allow malware to be on them, pretty sure they get checked because someone would sue the living shit out of them otherwise. And yes, they will most likely not be 2TB but if they even come close to that I would be happy as well, I ordered one so will let you know the actual size/speed once I get it.

 

I highly doubt wish even tests them, and they wouldn't be liable if the product contained malware.

Knockoff flash drives have been known to contain malware in the past, which is why I warn about the possibility.

 

I am totally aware of that and it is a good thing you are warning others however I highly doubt they contain malware. The product I purchased has been bought by over 1000 others, anyway, it came in today and the real size is 1952GB instead of 2TB.

 

We'll, call me a skeptic, but lmk how it works out. I'm not holding my breath considering the price.

 

I will update you once I have more information, I was also skeptical about it as 64GB usb sticks at walmart are like 40-60 bucks. I am really happy with the size though, it amazes me how technology has developed, if you go back 40-50 years, 2TB memory would have been the size of the largest shopping mall in the world. Our phones are more powerful than the supercomputers NASA used in the 60/70s.

Edit: I was able to put around 20GB on it before everything got deleted so you were correct, never thought of that myself so I am glad that you brought it up. Good thing is I can ask for a refund.

So, back to my original statement. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Yup, you are correct. Ive never had any issues with the past products Ive bought from wish. Anyway, I saw that Kingston is selling a 1TB usb for like 800 bucks on amazon but that is way too pricey for the avg user.

 

Word of advice if you still haven't done the file transfers:

Physical drives on the way out have a tendency of dying completely if you transfer huge amounts of data at once, so don't select all the files you want to transfer at once.
Instead do smaller amounts of files for a smooth time bby.
