So the hit I'm referring to taking is the difference in price between the gold we purchased (1.025 and 1.05) and the price Bogla offered (1.15) because that happened due to a miscommunication in a conversation I had with one of Bogla's workers. That is completely my bad, I should have been more clear.

No one that is actually involved with the situation (Richard, Jon's family, and of course/unexpectedly CDT) thinks that we should be covering the loss in BTC price fluctuation. Yes, it is of course really shitty that it happened. We of course wish that Gracious had converted it into USD so his family could have received more money. We can't change that though. At the end of the day though, the donation was received in btc, and that's the amount of BTC that is getting donated (meaning that amount of BTC was used to purchase the 07). So really, we are still donating what we received. We of course wish we converted it to USD so we could be donating more, but we can't change what's already happened. All we can do is learn for the future, and be proud that we as a community raised $7000 for Jon's family. Their reaction wasn't "why isn't it $8000". It was joy and pride and gratefulness that their son touched so many people in such a deep way.
