We already have a non-staff CDT Leader. We literally just had elections for it. This is ridiculous. You're continuing to slap those who actually care about the site in the face by not hearing their opinion before making drastic decisions.

I have nothing against Syed. If he applied for CDT, I probably would have supported it. But to appoint a non-member as our leader when so many other current non-staff members (Hamouze, DD, PA, Tyler) have spent months being active and helpful in CDT so they could run this past month is just plain disrespectful and shows just how out of touch you are with the _community_ of the site.

I know I'm going to regret this post later since I don't like losing my cool online, but I really feel that this promotion was uncalled for. Add him to the team, sure. Add other likeminded people, sure. But even though this is your site, I feel this was a step too far.

I'm confused by this entire situation.

It is clear that the CDT team running 50/50 for Jon got messed up due to bitcoin fluctuation and other miscalculations. They should have never kept it in bitcoin, but I feel like a lot of things are unclear. A few hours ago I read the that people were waiting for you to find out information to directly donate to Jon's parents rather than paying a portion to GoFundMe to donate using their website.

Graves did calculations based on the minimum amount of money that should be here at the end of this, but I'm not seeing anyone from the CDT specify payment methods for the amount received. I donated via PayPal, and I'm sure other people didn't use bitcoin or OSRS.

Can we "peanut gallery" please have an explanation for what's going on? Who was holding on to the bitcoin? Could we get a list of Payment methods for each individual person? What is the issue right now?

I believe the unclear speculation that went on in the spam forum by cucks is causing a lot of not needed drama.

If the CDT, as a whole, messed up on the raffle; that makes Sythe & CDT & Richard look bad. It's embarrassing that money meant for the grieving family of a long-time community member's death is getting fucked over by mistakes that could have been easily avoided by the CDT putting their heads together and setting up a proper plan for the event. I think that is the image a lot of people are getting right now, which is leading to the reactions like this CDT leader change.

At the same time, I believe there is a lot of panicking without real explanations. Instead of rushing decisions, I think you guys should be making a progress report thread. At the end of the day, this is a community event, run by community leaders, and there is zero reason to keep us in the dark.

 

In my years on the CDT I have not seen or heard you mention that this is what you wanted us to do.

 

With the exception of the BTC drop, we are up $174.15 from what we received.

 

Except the BTC drop was close to $1,000. This was easily avoidable if me and Darkest Dream held the bitcoin that was donated in our Circle wallets, like we suggested, but nobody listened.

See Tyler's post. We have never even been asked to until today.

And we have been developing the community. An example from just this month is us creating a Pokemon Go chat that is always popping with activity. A sythe member named NotWiz pm'd me literally saying he was coming back to sythe just for pokemon go, and he's been active in our chat ever since.

We make an effort to bring out new events all the time. It shows how out of touch you are that you boiled everything down to the same three events.

@Tyler is working on bringing out the exact calculations on who received what and by what method. (We already have who received what -- now I think we're working on the methods they received it in)

The problem with the raffle event is that there was no one really leading it to begin with. Tyler suggested the event in the CDT lounge when Jon passed, and DD made the threads since he's had experience running raffles in the past. As CDT leader at the time, I should have taken more control of the situation by delegating jobs to specific CDT members like I normally do for events, but after Jon passed, I was too distraught to really do anything on the raffle thread other than write, "Yes" "Do that" and "Please". As I've mentioned in another thread, before Jon passed, we were already in the middle of CDT elections. In fact, results were supposed to come out the day after the news reached sythe. As such, I already saw my time as leader as over once I was able to come back to sythe, so my primary goal was to get the next set of leaders situated. What I should have done was yes, run the raffle to completion. However, it had already been going on for so long on its own that I figured that everything was already settled. So, I passed on leadership to Excelont and FlyingToast passed it on to Hamouze, and then suddenly the raffle became their responsibility. It's a big event to be suddenly put in charge of, especially when so many different people are holding money for it in such large quantities.

Now to answer some of your direct questions--

Who had the BTC -- Gracious. He received the huge chunk from Friday, and yes, he should have converted it into cash right away. But we can't change what he did. I wish it had been converted earlier, but it wasn't. I also had some, but no more than $60 and I've already agreed to pay the loss out of pocket since I'm investing in BTC rn anyway.

The issue right now is that Jon's dad doesn't want the money donated to the gofundme. On Thursday, him and I were talking on the phone about Jon and his various businesses, and towards the end of the conversation, I mentioned to him that we had raised several thousand dollars for his family as a site. He was overjoyed, but he immediately requested that we donate it to Jon's cancer page instead of his gofundme to avoid the large fee. However, he still hasn't sent me the information! I sent him a reminder text today that read "Hi mr Hetch can you please send me the information for Jon's cancer bank", and his response asked a few more questions about Jon and told me to call him by his first name instead of Mr. Hecht since "we've been through a lot". I'll send him another reminder as soon as I'm done writing this message, since that's literally all we've been waiting on since Thursday. Remember, the drawing only happened on Wednesday!

As for the peanut gallery comment in general -- nothing is meant to be in the dark. If you have any questions, feel free to tag me in a post. Anyone that's asked me any questions has received answers straight away. I thought I cleared up confusion this morning in the discord, but apparently members that have been banned in the past for causing drama continue to cause drama when unbanned. HMMMMMMM

I haven't read the SF drama yet, and I'm not really sure if I'm planning to, but really, I'm not sure why there's so much outcry about how the raffle is being handled. The drawing happened Wednesday. It takes time to process the sheer amount of money we've been tasked with handling. And now, when we have everything ready, we're just waiting on Jon's father to give me the bank information. Yes, I understand the BTC should have been changed to USD when it was received, but we can't go back in time to change that. I'm sorry that money was lost because of the crash. It's really unfortunate that we lost some money for the cause because of that. But I don't want people to look at the loss and think "dang, we lost $X". Instead, think about how happy Jon's family is that we raised over seven thousand dollars for them. Jon's father was amazed and so proud that his son had managed to touch so many people online while he was still alive.
