1000 BTC Giveaway (~$600k)

So it was recently on the news that a Bitcoin heist of 119,754 BTC (~$60M) was stolen a few days ago, which you can read about here:

The mastermind behind this announced that they are giving away 1000 BTC, valued at roughly $600k, in a weeks time.

I think it's a way of laundering money, he will pay out to certain bitcoin addresses being his own or friends/family and will get the money into a bank account and claim "won it"....

 

I could quit being a slave if I win, best of luck to me.

 

If you do win this then aren't you apart of the robbery? What are the legal complications that can arise from this. I don't believe this is something we as a Sythe community should be endorsing.

According to UK law, if you know it's stolen property and you receive it you are liable and it's a criminal act. Unless you're intentions are to refund the BTC.

Just read up on it, and considering it has a 'dead mans switch'; it wouldn't be able to return to the original users. So definitely a scheme to money launder, or a criminal act to whoever wins(for UK, not sure for other countries).

They'd have to prove you knowingly accepted stolen goods. In this case, no mention of it is from the OP. The internet has seen stranger things, you could easily enough claim "I thought why not put my address in there, why not?"

In either regard, it's too good to be true. Seems sketchy so I'd recommend steering clear of it.

 

I don't doubt its legitimacy and doubt it's a troll. He fed 10 Bitcoins to a BTC eater to prove his point...no troll would feed throw 10 bitcoins away for a laugh, plus he has the 1000 Bitcoins in a wallet separate which you can see yourself.

Reason I posted it is not to advertise it, I've not even entered it, but just to see what people think.

If you do enter, would you get into legal trouble?
If you win the BTC, would you be forced to forfeit them if you are caught...as in, would you need to give it back to the company that got hacked or whatever?
Do you think he is laundering money this way, or a legit giveaway? Mind, he stole $60 million worth of BTC, so $600k is a small piece of that.

I've got no idea, so posted to see what peoples opinions are and what they think.

 

The lawyers this 600K will buy me to fight for me to keep it will be amazing. Hope you all can attend my court case after I win this 1K BTC.

I sincerely doubt that the person who wins this would actually be able to keep the BTC or the $ which comes out of it.

Definitely agree with you on this one, can see this happening, not a bad idea at all. I mean it's still going to be difficult for him to explain how he won it and why anyone would be giving out such a large amount of money

Can they detect who receives it $600k and some how remove it? Is that possible. Or can the police/cops//mi5/federal/cia whoever get involved to try and retrace that money back to their original owners?
