.NET is a legitimately solid framework, the biggest problem is Microsoft tooling.

This is literally to just push over devs who won't switch to a Windows dev environment due to their familiarity with Bash. Fuck Microsoft for trying, Linux and open source tooling with always be superior to the serious dev who is willing to take the time to care for their tooling.

I was a tools engineer for a company for a while, so I'm biased, but I definitely feel the ease of developing on Linux is significant enough to not want Visual Studio / other MS bennies.

Microsoft will never have the superior community and tooling the open source world does. And C# / .NET can be used on Linux just fine ( Mono ).

 

Well hey, at least I make you laugh more often than you check your Skype messages!

 

Mono is only relevant for console. GUI dev with it is a nightmare. GTK was never meant to have a # tacked on to it. Also afaik you can make more powerful console applications with .NET core anyway, so Mono is sorta not so useful. Xamarin is making some interesting steps forward though. I'll be keeping an eye on them for the foreseeable future.
