A new CDT Section, Needs Redesigning & Possible Redirections?

In this thread I have a few propositions for the redesign to the current layout of the Community Development Team within 'Our Community' section.

Purpose:(See below for breakdown of possible changes) CDT events are lacking awareness. I believe this is, because CDT is all over the place. I had the idea of a subscription service/alert notifications of each event's being taken place by CDT, etc. (however this seems too much effort), but if we could merge all CDT related activities within a specific section for itself "CDT" under Our Community, it would give it much more awareness, and easy access for users.




Current layout of CDT within 'Our Community' section:
Try and find where CDT related activity is?

News > 1 sticky; '[LIVE] New CDT Event now! [LIVE]', a form of notification of events.
Community General > 2 Stickies; CDT Application & CDT Hall of Fame & a few other CDT events.
Feedback > Community Input > 1 sticky; CDT Suggestions/Feedback & a few voting events.

The issue with the News sticky is that it rarely receives a bump, rarely updated. Need's a Community or Global Mod to edit this.
Anything CDT relative in Community Input is rarely seen as much. Due to the sub-section within a section.
Event's may not have as much attention, due to lack of awareness, lack of a community vibe (being in one specific place).







Propositions/Changes/Redesign:

1. Create a new CDT Section in 'Our Community'. (Just below Community General - not a sub-section) s/o @Sephiroth878 for idea of a CDT event section.

2. Move all CDT related Stickies, Events* and Feedback to new CDT section. (Combine all CDT related things in to this new section, don't believe it would be necessary for further sub-sections as that would be more effort for users.)

3. Possibility of giving CDT members powers** to use within this one specific section?, similar to sectional mods. Only for the abilities that they could edit anything necessarily relative to CDT. (Unsure about this?)

We already have CDT members who a lot of people can trust to donate to, for various events, such as a 50/50 raffle. Trust I don't believe would be an issue here, and they would not be staff. Or just have the community mods deal with that? ###This suggestion would be relative if and only if #4 is feasible, because then CDT members who run events can use some sort of tool to redirect threads posted in each sections of the forums.###

4. *Still post event's within each sub-sections throughout forum, but have them redirect to CDT Section. (Similar to the rule section, which redirects to the rule page. You would still post a CDT event in a specific section so as to garner attention from those users, however clicking that thread would redirect up to CDT section and the thread posted there would have the event.)

Not sure if this is possible for specific threads to sections redirecting, or if it's only possible for the section to thread redirecting like the rules. If it is possible and easy implemented, for CDT members to have some tool or power**(like suggested in#3) to post threads in each sections about the event, which would be essentially a redirection to the CDT section above. ### If this is not possible, or too hard to implement etc. There would be no need for #3, as community mods/or CDT members whom are Community Mods can deal with things in CDT section) ###

Possible Pro's and Con's?
What can be changed to make CDT look better, easy access, more attention.

To me the current layout, is all over the place, and is effort to want to participate. We need easier access to CDT related events and activities, it has to feel like a community development team for us to feel apart of wanting to be a community.

Pro: Merge of CDT in one, multiple awareness of CDT activities in one place, better access for users.
Con: Costs time/may not be possible to make/implement #3/#4.

Would like to know if a redirection system is possible, for #4.

Would also like to know for the CDT members if this is something they'd be interested in?

 

It is possible to have a usergroup that has no funrank or usertitle that could have certain perms on a CDT forum/subforum. I like a lot of these ideas and I think it could help clean it all up and make it look better.

All in all there needs to be more awareness of CDT and what they do. It would be nice to see the COmmunity sections liven up a bit. General DIscussion is a bare bones and it used to have 100 active members viewing back in the day.

 

So possible permissions could be an easy make, but what about #4.

Think maybe @Matthew would be able to answer that.

EDIT: Sythe recently wanting the creation of a PR team; Meaning you need to have a CDT forum which merges everything into one destination, in order to best please the suggestion below.

I feel like this would be an easy way for people to find out about the CDT. It'd make more people want to become part of the team and it'd make events easier to follow. We could simply archive the events that are over and have regular members not see the archives, so people would only see the stickies and the current ongoing events. We could post the links in the Community General chat and have all the activity within the forum below Community General.

Thanks to the only CDT member for posting so far

I recommend keeping threads not archived, so as to show users what previous events have taken place. How the community is involved, how the CDT is trying to involve the community etc etc. I think those threads remaining un-archived would further benefit the remembrance of CDT.

Some threads are best suited to each individual sections, such as SOTM, or LoL events, therefore keeping them posted in those sections is necessary in order to garner the attention from the users in those forums. That's why I'm hoping there's a possibility of the redirection system, so users would click those links and redirect up to CDT.

If CDT had it's own section, what is the necessity of having links posted in Community General?

This is something that is usually suggested internally within the CDT, and the admins help us implement it. You keep suggesting things for the CDT, so why don't you actually apply?

 

So your saying I should apply, and if I get accepted, put this forward, it would happen?

Why can't a community member suggest what they feel is good for CDT without having to be on the inside and getting things done. Do you guys not want community participation? :\

 

I would agree if this were a one time thing, but you seem to suggest a lot of things for the CDT. All I'm saying is you have a lot of ideas and are clearly interested in joining the CDT so I don't see why you don't apply.

well I dont see why it would hurt if we got the opinion of the public as well. The point of the suggestion forum is to get input from other SYthe Users and if enough people like the idea, it gets moved up the ladder

Tl; dr =

CDT is unorganised for members to see.
Create CDT section for members.
Move all CDT sticky /events to new section.
Make events in specific sub forums to garner attention, but have a redirection system to new section.
Possibly give CDT powers (if they don't have already, to utilise CDT activities)

I'm polling a community section redesign in the staff lounge which will incorporate turning the com gen section in to a Community Hub of sorts and ironing all this out

I can see about sending alerts out when there's an event

 

So CDT section perhaps in the making of the forum design? Or just having everything(all community things) in one do you mean? I really would like a condense on all the CDT in one place, and if thats what you mean then yessir. Do you know whether there could be a redirection or hot link type of system? The subscription service was the first idea I brainstormed, but CDT seemed to think it would be a bit too much work I think.(it'd really just be two threads one with subscription list, one with event list, and per event paste the updated subscription list -alert notification). Either way anything that could incorporate easy CDT access and some better form of awareness.

 

Putting all community stuff in one section essentially. A "Community Hub".

We already have a section "Community Development Team" for CDT members up there so it would he quite confusing to have 2.
