Dear Sythe Users,

With pain in my heart I have to share with you guys that today 20th of July 2016 Jonathan Hecht also known as ‘’JON’ past away.

Jon was known for his helpfulness and friendliness, he putted others before him even though his circumstances.

This post will contain, some opinions from us about him (people who talked to him on a daily) and some people that where even closer to his personal life.

We loved Jon for what he was, however this didn’t come as a surprise for us. it was still a shock considering a couple of days ago he was slowly recovering. Jon was a great guy and we have tremendous respect for his fighting spirit and his passion of life. You will be missed Jon.

Jonathan's Cancer Fund

"On November 2, 2012 Jonathan, then a freshman in college, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. This is a type of cancer that affects the blood or bone marrow causing an abnormal increase of white blood cells. On February 7, 2013, two and a half months into treatment things turned tragic for Jonathan when he developed an aggressive and deadly life threatening fungal infection called Mucormycosis, which required him to remain hospitalized at Roswell Park Cancer Institute for 7 1/2 months and was given a 1% chance at survival. This infection was also in his Cerebellum, right atrium of the heart and his lungs. Jonathan was taken to surgery and after 8 hours, we were told that the infection did not reach the orbit around the eye, allowing them to finish the surgery. Against all odds, he survived and after numberous surgeries and treatments, was able to get therapy and learn to walk again.

The last 3.5 years have continued to be a nightmare for his family, trying to keep up with his ongoing medical treatments out of town and the many complications that resulted from them, all while trying to function as a family.

Jonathan is currently in ICU at Sloan-Kettering Hospital. Jon recently received a Bone Marrow Transplant. His transplant numbers were encouraging. Unfortunately, Jonathan has developed a lung Infection and is being incubated in ICU. They are not sure Jonathan is going to make it.
Jonathan's family has been by his side throughout his medical nightmare.

In addition to Jonathan's ongoing health crisis, his family is struggling financially and risk losing their home."

This is the part that I wanted to share with the Sythe community.

May his soul find the rest that it deserves.

The Funeral is tomorrow 22th of July 2016.
One of the people will attend the funeral if you want a private message given to the parents please inbox me till 2PM West coast.

Very, very sad to hear this

 

I just shed a tear and i barely knew the guy

 

Depressing news, Jon always helped me with my VPS when I asked despite his busy and stressful life.
Thoughts are with his family and friends.

 

Jon, was one of the most respected Sythe members around. Everyone loved and respected him. He provided many with great services as well as great friendships. He may be gone, but he will stay forever in our hearts and never forgotten.

Jesus, this is terrible news. Jon was a very kind soul, keeping his family in my thoughts.

 

Wow, this saddens me, I only knew the guy for a short period of time, but he's a real cool dude. I wish I could donate somehow but the Gofundme page doesn't accept PP anymore..

My heart goes out to him and his family.

Truly sad to hear the news even though I barely knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with him, his family and his friends. May you rest in peace Jon.

 

I'm a really sensitive person when it comes to death. I've lost a few family members to cancer and still have a few currently diagnosed (including my father). When I heard about this I was just pacing around my house. I can imagine what his family is going through and they could use all the support they can get.

@Ritchy if you are in touch with his family, let them know that the entirety of the Sythe community stands by him. Dozens of people were his friends here and hundreds more have communicated with him. He will not be forgotten.

Rest easy, Jon.

 

He was so caring of other people and always offered to lend a helping hand and was so positive considering his situation and what life through him. Was definitely blessed to learn from Jon.

 

Unfortunately I never spoke with him but from what I have read from other users on Sythe, he was a very kind man who had the up most respect from everyone in the community. Rest In Peace, Jon.
My thoughts go out to all his friends and his family.

 

I don't believe it.... Jon has been one of my favorite people I've known online the last couple of years. I'm at a loss of words at the moment. Jon I fucking love you and know you're in a better place.

 

A sweeter guy I've yet to meet. I enjoyed sharing music, stories and jokes with Jon over the past year or so. A lovely guy with a heart of gold, taken far too soon. I will treasure our conversations.

Jon was one of the most memorable guys I've known in my RS career, he'd sit in our teamspeak joking, laughing, screwing around. You'd never know he's been fighting such a serious health condition. Regardless of what he was going through he still took the time to help us in his best ability.

Jon was a truly remarkable guy that will always forever be remembered in our hearts.

May you rest in peace, and peace be found within your loved ones.

This hit me way harder than I expected. Jon and I talked on and off over the past couple years. He's always inspired me with his hard-working, upbeat attitude. Seemed like he was always trying to put a smile on my face, despite everything he had been struggling with. I wish I had spoken to him more....
