What are your guys's opinion on investing in BTC? The price has gone up from around $445 usd to nearly $500 usd per 1 btc although it fluctuates very often

i dont invest in etfs personally but dont think its a bad idea at all. if vanguard is your broker, go for it

blackstone isn't really a traditional investment firm, is it? i've always thought of it as a pe firm with some ib/investment arms and other financey stuff going on too. while they make a lot of money internally, i dont see why this is a better investment than anything else; if anything i'd assume its probably a bad investment (personal belief). why are you interested in it?

yeah, this reminds me i have like $80 of btc somewhere that i should probably sell at some point. maybe if i forget about it long enough, it'll be worth $x,xxx someday. or maybe it'll be worthless.

fwiw, this is totally my opinion. im sure people are making a lot of money on bitcoin, but i personally think it's not gonna last.

I have around 600 dollars in bitcoin that I got from the primedice advertising (360 from it that has increased in value) at this point I'm sort of considering it sunk money and not worrying about it until I want to purchase a specific different dream car or something then I'll sell for the going rate at the time.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but what causes the price of BTC to fluctuate?

i dont read anything about personal finance. i've used sites like seeking alpha before but honestly dont read that much anymore. really the best advice is to read a lot; much of what you read re: finance is going to be opinionated, and reading a lot will give you perspective on what is crap and what is worthwhile. i definitely wouldnt follow advice given on those sites word for word, but get a general sense of what they're saying, and see if it makes logical sense to you, and go from there.

on trading... investopedia is great for basics. seeking alpha has some people trying to convince you that they're right. there's no substitute for making an account somewhere and playing around with things. most brokerages have tools that let you trade with a simulation account (so no real gains or losses) - this isn't a bad approach.

i've also answered posts similar to this a little more comprehensively earlier in this thread. so if this isnt what you're looking for scroll back! (or use the new search functionality ;)

I don't read those blogs, the thing now aday which gets the fastest news is Reddit or the deepweb or you have some insider information (I knew when btc went up from 460$-550 then down to 520 then up to 640 down to 610 up to 750) I didnt always hit the peak of the sale price because of fees, or not able to be fast enough with selling.

I would start searching reddit they are fast with news or the deepweb which sometimes just gives you a goldmine for free.

Please note I only follow btc at this moment, other things I follow is Gaming evenets (E3) which gives you an idea how a company will do the upcoming months/year. (overwatch Hype on Blizzard was profitable)

Please take in mind these kind of investments are high risk high reward. I have had days where I would make 300$ on a 1.5k Investment but also had days where i woke up and lost 50-150$ in the first 20mins of waking up.

I've been thinking about buying some Ethereum, in the hopes they follow bitcoins path upwards. However the recent DAO hack has made me think twice, even though the price dropped to $11 and rising again now. Anyone else been watching Ethereum/keeping up to date with it or have any thoughts?

Ethereum, looks promising, however with the stuff going on in Europe right now, I would invest in dollar instead of any crypto currency even though I have some myself..

I wouldn't jump the banwagen on Ethereum however, If you think about buying some buy like 50-100$ worth and let it alone for a while maybe you get some profits maybe you odn't

My advise, don't invest untill you know more about it :). (do research)

I do invest in stocks, inherited some money from my grandmother. Made about 70% profit in 3 years, but when I bought the stock it was pretty low (back in 2013).

This was over the course of 6 months ;). Stocks are basically as high as they've ever been, so not sure how you're still down?
