[5/5]Jamster! requesting a pardon for scamming

    Your profile link:

    http://sythe.org/member.php?u=252279

    Report/post/reason that got you banned:

I was banned for scamming a user "CJGuff". I can't remember the amount, I think it was around 1k USD via PayPal. The scam report can be found here : http://www.sythe.org/threads/mmoexchange-global-mod-jamster-scammed-me-for-1078.1473231/

At the time, "Kenpen" and I had a working relationship where we would warn each other about scams or ban evaders via MSN. This was good for both MMOExchange and Sythe, however it looks like when I told him about the "RAM" (righteous scam we used to call it) he got both me and CJGruff banned. I can now see that he himself has been banned, however that is not relevant to this post.

Proof of contacting victims for repayment or repayment of victims:

I have not attempted to contact the victim, because shortly after he CB'd the amount and was banned.

Anything you weren't banned for but want to confess to now:

I have another account called "Viewer123"; which was not used for trading purposes, simply to view the website and investigate other users. I do not take this lightly as I understand it violates the ban evading rule, and I do sincerely apologize for the lapse in judgement.

Detailed description of the events that took place and why you think we should forgive you:

I was a moderator at the now defunct MMOExchange.net. I believe I should be forgiven because this was not a "traditional" scam. We used to have a policy at MMOExchange; where if you scammed one of our members, and we discover that you're ban evading on another account, we would take the opportunity to use our moderator status to scam fraudsters and return the funds to the original victim. I'm appealing this because I've been told by several members of the Sythe community that my actions would no longer constitute as a bannable offence considering the context and circumstances. As for the events that took place, unfortunately I cannot present any screenshots or retrieve the screenshots from the scam report, as the links are too old and are now broken. However, it was most likely this :

    A) Googled a username or email address
    B) Linked it to a banned account
    C) Investigated the reason for the ban (scamming, or something else)
    D) Consult with MMOExchange Admin before proceeding with the scam
    E) Conduct the scam

Did you fully read and follow this sticky thread in the pardon section?:

Yes I did, unfortunately I do not have evidence of trying to contact the user, as he himself was banned for scamming (the original motivation behind me scamming him), and it's been 4 years. MSN has since died.

What else do you have to say?:

Around the time the scam occurred, I believed I was doing the right thing by taking the money back from the fraudster and returning it to the victim. Even though I believe I was in the right, and others would agree with me, at the end of the day I did end up assuming the role of a fraudster, no matter what the reasons. To make matters worse, the money was never returned to the victim because of the chargeback for the amount that was scammed from "CJGuff". When I was banned, along with several other members of the MMOExchange team, I had no intention of breaking the rules and creating another account to continue my gold selling business. However, I did need an account to search the forums for more ban evaders that could be on MMOExchange, therefore the creation of "Viewer123".

I have relationships with several gold businesses on Sythe, and I will ask them to post on this thread to further strengthen my application for a high pardon.

Thanks for taking the time to read my request, and I do fully understand the reasoning if this were to result in a denial.

    Jamster

So you have no logs at all of this? You'll need to provide at the very minimum a screenshot of the chargeback being successful so you didn't profit off of the counter scam and anything else to corroborate this story will do you well

Personally not a fan of counter-scamming, offsite or onsite. You will definitely need to prove you didn't profit off of the scam

I am in the process of collecting enough information to satisfy your concerns. The paypal account wasn't mine, therefore I do not have access to it - however; I am in the process of contacting the person who owned the account in the hopes that he can retrieve that transaction (I don't know if Paypal keeps records that old, but it's worth a try)

Also; I'm not sure if this holds any weight with regards to corroborating my story, but I am also in the process of contacting the administrator of MMOExchange to confirm my story.

Here is what I've got so far to help my request for a pardon; however I doubt this does much to further build my case :

Announcement on MMOExchange that I joined staff :

    https://web.archive.org/web/20120625235522/http://www.mmoexchange.net/forums/index.php?topic=47871.0

    My profile :

    https://web.archive.org/web/2012102...nge.net/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=210

There was also a thread made on MMOExchange explaining the "RAM"; however it doesn't look like the waybackmachine was able to capture this.

If there's anything else I can do to further strengthen my case please let me know.

    Skype : "Jamster187" (I have impostors)

    Best wishes,

It doesn't matter that you were a mod on MMOE. You don't need to prove that either, I was around back then and I remember this all happening. What you need to do is prove in some way that you did not profit off of the scam... I imagine you don't have that sort of proof, so just let us know if/when the guy who got his transaction reversed responds to you. You'll need proof that the payment was chargedback and proof that the transaction came from the scammer (it seems the scammer sent the money, then chargedback, so the counterscam was unsuccessful).

I was searching through my email and found a picture of the chargeback from 2012.

This amount matches exactly the amount claimed to be scammed by CJGruff on his scam report, in case there was any doubt about the relevance of this reversal.

What else can I do to further alleviate any concerns?

Hey sorry, I was away for a few days. So I'm concerned about the legitimacy of the screenshot; I attempted to replicate a that screenshot of a reversal with the classic site; however, PayPal just loaded and eventually displayed an internal error. So would you be able to take a screenshot of that in the current PayPal display screen?

Also, we're going to need proof that the email you're showing us is the same email of the attempted counter-scam

Sorry guys, I was busy. I messaged Dunworry warning him it may take me a while to get the screenshot.

The guy with the paypal account can't find the transaction as he's opened/closed his PP over the years.

He gave me this screenshot, however he requested that it be censored to protect his privacy.

I have sent the unedited version to Dunworry via Skype.

    Apologies for the delay.

@Jack Goff Looks like it's clean. So long as we're sure that's the correct payment in question, and there are no other outstanding issues, this pardon is good for voting.

I'd like to see the proof of you not profiting from the chargeback. As it seems you were a mod on mmoexchange at the time of the report, I find it very concerning that you didn't resolve or dispute your ban explaining your intent/reasoning following it.

Hey guys, sorry for the delays!

Kiro, I assumed you are requiring the pic I sent to Dunworry, because everything is included in this post.

I will add you on skype, or ask dunworry to relay it to you.
