Best PC security software

Because I want to improve the security on my PC

I've installed the premium version of a key scrambler so far

does anyone else have good recommendations for a firewall / anti virus??

I know some people here will say to just use common sense and go without it, but I would still recommend at least something on your PC. Who knows, you might click on something by mistake at some point.

 

Windows Defender has gotten really good. I'd recommend a mix of Avast, Spybot, and Malware-Bytes.

 

I think the best form of PC defense is yourself. Being knowledgable can go a long way.

Other than that I'd also suggest some sort of mix between malwarebytes and Nod32 (ESET security) or bitdefender. I believe bitdefender is the highest rated AV on the market.

Having multiple anti viruses can cause more harm than good so be careful which you choose. Stay away from norton anything.

 

I have always used Norton. I know that alot of people hate it (i'm not sure why tho?), but i've never had any viruses. It's a great anti-virus, and the power eraser tool is godlike.

 

It's because Norton itself acts like a virus. This is from experience... It intertwines itself into your PC in a weird way. I remember when I had Norton 360 and uninstalled it I couldn't access the internet until I reinstalled it. I'm not sure if it's still like that but that one experience definitely turned me off permanently.

 

Weird.. I never had any issues at all myself. Well, might be an exception i guess!

 

I have used all of antivirus systems and can say that Eset Smart Security is the best. This antivirus don't take a lot of computer resources, like Kaspersky or AVG. It is simple to use and also catch viruses very well. Just try it, I recommend.

 

I always use malwarebytes and windows defender. As long as you don't do anything dumb you will be safe!

 

Common sense is the best security out there, but to be extra safe I use malwarebytes and Avast PRO (got it for free), before that I was using windows defender.

 

Always been using Microsoft Security Essentials without any issues.

 

Is Avast worth the switch from Windows defender?

 

I dont know, really. Like I said, the best one is common sense. I can't even remember the last time I had an infection, and the only reason I'm using Avast is because I got it for free.

 

As far as I know Avast is a virusscanner, Windows Defender isn't really one. I'm no hardware geek, but afaik you can use Avast in addition to Windows Defender, however I'd go for another virusscanner.

Actually, Avast does everything windows defender does and more.

 

Despite that I do believe it's better to have both of them than neither of them, Windows Defender works fine with another antivirus.

 

In most cases it actually shuts down itself when it detects you're using different software next to it, and it the off chance that it doesn't there's no need at all to run it simultaneously. Defender is pretty basic software, it's alright and it's free but it's basic and there are better free options out there. I'm not saying Avast! Pro is the best either. (Again, I got it for free so I use it)

One of the best ways I have found to stop people getting viruses is actually to install an adblocker as it prevents people from clicking those nasty ads that seem to be pretty much everywhere. Try Ublock Origin , Paired with a decent antivirus you should have minimal issues. I personally don't use an antivirus, however when downloading anything suspicious i always give it a quick scan through VirusTotal
