Got scammed for 700m OSRS on sythe. Mistakes I made.

Last night I just got scammed for 700m OSRS on a sythe sale. At first I was gonna cry about it but then I decided I would share my mistakes here instead and perhaps prevent future gold sellers from making the same mistake.

Story:
I posted on sythe that I had 700mil of OSRS gold in stock for sale at a price of $1.29/1mil. http://www.sythe.org/threads/selling-cheap-07-gold-trusted.1911623/#post-15372472
A guy named Cameronn added me on skype wanting to buy the gold. He said he would offer $1.25 if I sold all 700m, which I agreed to and the transaction was to use bitcoins. I wanted him to go first but in increments but he convinced me that bitcoins take too long to confirm so its better to go all at once and that to use a middleman instead. It made sense to me so I agreed. Then he referred me to Divica.Chloe's free MM service through a link on skype (it was a goo.gl type of link) , so I clicked it and I saw that it took me to chloe's MM sythe page and it showed a long history of good vouches so naturally I agreed.

So I started my phone's video camera and then gave the 700m to Divica.Chloe's (the mm) and then I started to wait for my bitcoin payment. Then Cameronn stalled 5minutes or so saying he needed to download gyazo to take picture of him sending payment. Then all of a sudden my internet just stops working. Webpages wouldn't load, skype message couldn't be sent, etc. I was using wifi at the time so I connected my ethernet cable instead hoping my internet was just buggy because of wifi.. but even with the ethernet cable my internet still would not connect. But I was not very worried because I was using a safe MM and I had everything recorded on my phone.
But little did I know, cameronn had pre-targetted me and had somehow cracked my sythe password. He then had somehow DDosed me or hacked my internet and stopped me from connecting to internet for 20 minutes (idk how he did it, perhaps it could be skype is not very secure or it could be the link he sent me to chloe's MM page was a goo.gl type of link or something, I'm not a computer geek so I have no idea). So after I gave the 700m to chloe the MM, my internet was shut down and cameronn used my sythe to send fake RSNs to chloe and cancelled the trade and convinced chloe to return the 700mil to HIS rsn but since it was sent using my sythe, the MM believed she was returning the money back to me.

tl;dr,
1) passwords like "a1s2d3" (even tho they use numbers and letters) which was my previous password can be easily cracked on sythe
2) be careful using an MM as u can be "ddosed/have your internet hijacked" after you give money to a MM .. im not sure how the hackers do it but there is a way they can do it

He probably cracked your password before he even contacted you, sorry to hear about this though.

 

No, he said the guy sent a fake link to Divicas MM page, while on the fake identical Sythe page he probably logged onto his own account showing the password. The site probably logged your IP then he made you disconnect ( no idea how a ddos works) unlucky though man, someone I traded with once tried sending me a fake page and I nearly logged onto my 07 main through it, just gotta be careful

 

Sorry for your lose budd, never use links or shared contacts imo. Search the person on Sythe yourself and require the PM yourself with a special code-word to be sure it's them (people sometimes manipulate PM's)

 

I would never suggest a code-word. That's the easiest to manipulate in a double impostor scam. Always request that the person PM you their skype, your chat, and a bit of the chat logs. Make sure it matches all 100% exactly

 

Meant it as an extra meassurement, obviously always check the entire PM if what is said matches the reality

 

If it makes you feel any better I lost x2 what you lost. SO I KNOW THE FEELS.

 

Never click links. If someone recommends a mm then look up the user on your own. As said above, the scammer most likely got your ip from the link you clicked. You're toast once your ip is compromised.

 

Yeah sounds like he sent you a phishing link, thats really unlucky man! selling a large amount of gp like that should really only be done to really trustworthy buyers e.g. the bigger gold market sellers imo. so much less risk!

 

That sucks but what's done is done. As I'm typing this I'm going to be getting 2fa for my emails/sythe for the extra layer of security.
