offer lesser version of SVU for free

I feel like simply making all traders send in a copy of their photo id verifying name and physical address would greatly reduce scams.
every time two people trade, they can verify each other identity via video chat since everyone has skype or facetime

That way each individual can only get away with scamming up to once before nobody would ever fall for it again (unless they moved, but seriously whos gonna move just to scam another 10 bucks).

For those of you think its sketchy to give away name and physical address consider this.

All of the following people have access to this info
1. anyone at your high school or university off the student directory
2. anyone at hr at your place of work, sometimes even your boss / coworkers
3. any bouncer / police officer/ TSA agent / other person whos ever checked your id
4. anyone you've ever purchased something from online
5. your neighbours
6. yellowpages prob has that info
.. the list goes on..
you cant steal someones identity with just that information
you CAN confirm who they are and make sure scammers dont strike twice

once again, I'm only suggesting giving out NAME and ADDRESS which is perfectly safe

hell, in the modern day i bet theres at least a thousand people who you've had to give your SSN to and none of you have been victims of identity theft yet

this would cost sythe very little to operate and would greatly reduce the # of scammers on this site.

I sincerely hope this is a joke. If anything it should be worth more considering the amount of idiots that buy it and instantly scam because people think it makes you more trustworthy. There is no good reason to allow people to appear more trustworthy for an even lesser amount of money than already possible.

Giving out your name and address is not perfectly safe i'm not sure where you're getting this information from. Requiring people to do this is also a restriction on the free market not to mention not everyone will be comfortable doing so.

There is so much making this suggestion unrealistic that I can only assume you posted this without thinking it through.

 

You want Sythe to offer a "lesser" version of SVU for free which is more advanced than the current version? Kind of an oxymoron, don't you think? Richard talked about adding more levels to SVU, but the specifics of exchanging information for each trade has yet to be discussed or even brought up. One things for sure is it certainly won't be free.

 

I wouldn't mind a more secure and expensive SVU although I wouldn't know how they could achieve this. I completely agree with V2's reasoning though there's no point it'll only help scammers

i dont see why giving out your address otherwise is risky? if i wanted your address all i need to do is trade you a low value trade using paypal and bam i have it. seriously how can you deny that every day you're giving out your address to countless people? ever been to a bar? ever get carded? bam that guy has your address name and can even swipe your license #, all i'm saying is verifying addresses prevents the same scammer from scamming twice since you cannot change your name and address at will whereas you can make a million usernames and pp accounts if you so please

 

in real life a bank determines your trustworthiness by checking your income, credit history, assets, etc. and verifying your identity.

 

The effectiveness of this would be challenged when anonymity is sought after (not everyone uses paypal). There is also the possibility of a breach in the system which can leak personal information in the transfer process you describe (such information would need to be stored in a database).
