    Best methods to avoid chargebacks?

I've been selling/buying OSRS gold on sythe for about 3-4 months now, and for the first time ever I've run into a scammer. Usually I don't allow randoms to buy gold off of me due to the fact that I know they can easily scam, but I was having a pretty good day and decided I'd give this lad a chance.

He wanted to buy 50M for $1.4 per mill, once he sent me the payment, I asked him to send me an e-mail of the receipt to prove it was him who owned the paypal account and not some greasy scammer working off of a stolen paypal. (This would ensure they've got the e-mail and the paypal, less chance of it being a scammer using a hacked account if they have both credentials.)

-After he sent me the payment, and the e-mail, he was paid in full, in game, immediately. Unfortunately, he spoke to me through my livechat and said he found my website via Sythe.org. I've met people like this before, usually no cause for concern but this particular person told me he would vouch after I paid him and whatnot, so I did and he just left the chat (on my website). Didn't think much of it, just a lazy guy who got his gold.. no cause for concern.

A few days later I log into my paypal and they've put my payment on hold, and the person tried to recover the payment and he gave some big bullshit story to PayPal about how he ordered and I told him to pick up the gold in 24 hours or something and I never paid him (which is complete garbage) - basically there's no real way I can prove I paid him, I've got screenshots of our conversation as well as the picture of me giving him the gold in-game along with the e-mail he sent me and the paypal information, but all of this does really no good for me. I've been told I need to wait 20 days and resolve it with him over paypal dispute, but I'm really banking on the fact that I have a lot of transactions with paypal and never once have I dealt with a chargeback, and thousands and thousands (20K+ easily) has passed through my paypal account.

For future reference, if anybody has dealt with this sort of situation, what methods can be used to prevent this in the future and how likely am I to win this dispute?

Any information is helpful, thanks for your time if you've read this

First of all only accept from members with a decent amount of trade history and reputation. I will usually use the payment to family and friends method and that usually works fine but I am aware you can still get ripped off. You could also just not accept Paypal sometimes they are just more trouble than it is worth..

Oh and also.. PayPal does not care if you have x amount of previous transactions and what not. For example if you sold 100 things on ebay a year ago and then went to sell again on the same account today Paypal would place the 21 day hold on you quite happily..

Record the transaction, and make sure that he verifies everything, username and what not.

Paypal can still ignore this evidence, but you'll have a much better chance of getting your money back. I'd also advise calling them as soon as the charge back occurs.

But yeah, Paypal is shitty to sellers.

Despite seeming like a shameless plug, it's just the veritable truth.

The best way to avoid payment fraud while trading in virtual assets, is to use PlayerAuctions. You get access to buys willing to pay across 180 countries, with support for almost every major payment option. The 10% fee covers access to buyers in the marketplace, a storefront, operational expenses, our own marketing engine which acquires new buyers to the community, and the proprietary risk management system which protects you fully from chargebacks.

I am SO sorry this sounded like an advertisement... but... it's just the truth

PA has been helping traders secure their trades since as far back as 2000. Couple that with the fact we have merchant acquiring bank accounts, and long standing relationships with our processors, we're able to apply and pass on this security to everyone that let's us protect them :)

On top of all this, because of the precarious nature of virtual asset trading, you protect your own payment accounts, from risks of getting your assets frozen.

I remember a couple years ago, there was a seller asking me about the prospect of selling through PA instead of through his own website because of increasingly suspicious order velocity amongst his members. Unfortunately, during the course of the conversation, he was slammed with $10,000 in chargebacks [all from a member who had been buying from him for 2 years], with PayPal freezing the other $40,000 in funds he had in his account. Needless to say, he went out of business before we could help.

Protect your payment accounts. Protect your trades. It's why we get up in the mornings ;) (amongst other reasons of course) ;)

It's fine you're advertising because I was already interested to be honest. If you could message me and explain what type of information I would need to provide as a seller I'd like to start selling on Sythe and PA
