I'm wanting to start up a design business, now I understand the business side of things but I've never known how to promote myself. If anyone is experience in this I'd really appreciate some advice!

Should be a little more specific in what you're asking. Maybe I'm alone, but I'm not quite sure what it is you even want?

 

You may want to open a portfolio in places such as Behance, anything else depends on your kind of graphic works. There are forums, social networks and there's Fiverr for really fast works.

 

Starting local is always a good idea - handing out cards and sample work to local businesses around you. Then it evolves from there once you get your first few clients.

 

buisness cards/posters? online adverts?banners alot of trades word of mouth.
