Not sure how seriously to take this because spam forum.

Someone charging $35 for a $25 PP donation to a newcomer isn't that unreasonable. Not doing the math, but off the top of my head that's about a 40% fee. A random newcomer sending you PP is probably a 25-50% chance of charging you back at some point, having a hacked PP, etc. You could probably get away with charging a little less, but much less and you'd eventually be losing money.

You also have to take time providing a service, keeping money in a bond, etc. Not to mention disputes can put your PP account in hot water, eat up time, and restrict your ability to trade.


For rsgp, you have to charge a tiny bit more to factor in risk. For bitcoin a little more to factor in maybe exchange fee. But those methods should be closer to 1:1.

 

There's a lot of misinformation here, so I'll clear some things up. The people I'm referring to charge 20-40%+ fees regardless of payment method which is not at all justifiable. If someone files a paypal reversal on their donation, it gets credited back to your bond so you actually lose nothing. You don't ever have to keep funds in your bond, you just pay into the bond right before or after receiving someone's donation. It's literally the easiest most risk-free shit in the world and several people concluded that they can and should be charging immense fees for this service

 

If that's the case, there should be a cap on the amount that they're allowed to charge for donations.

40% is RIDICULOUS. If they're afraid of charge backs, don't take donations from people they think are risky simple as that. I remember paying $37 for my $25 donation even though the majority was in GP. I was charged a flat rate fee for my donation even though only $5 of the $25 was through paypal. Ridiculous.

Ah, that's good to know @ Video. Your rant makes a bit more sense now. I don't think we should try and set a limit on what they can charge still.

The issue is Matthew won't make any new bond holders, I've been asking for like 2 years. I'm willing to take new payment methods, charge lesser fees, and be available often. I know a few others in the same boat.

Currently they have a monopoly on "bold holding" so they can charge whatever they want.

 

Shit lol, I'd be OBH with 0% fees if I ever got the chance. I'll apply in like 1-2 years and make Bogdan obsolete.

This thread made me think about my fees. Each $25 donation takes me about 10 minutes of work(talking, being nice, giving instructions etc) so that's $60 in fees per hour. I usually charge $110/hour for my work as software engineer that means with the current fee percentage I lose money while spending time on accepting donations. I should double my fees.

 

100% agreed. They are greedy buggers, basically ripping off other Sythe members because they feel they should be rewarded $10 for their "efforts". They're veteran members also. I guess there are just people who are shameless, they don't care as long as they make a buck.

 

I think you are mistaking what you do at sythe as an equivalent to your job.
