Make the Upper Spam Forum time based

First of all, it's not a big deal, I know that. But seriously, it says oldfags only. Why is it at all based on post count?

It should be based on time, for example, only people who joined 5+ years ago are allowed on the forum. Like I said, this isn't a big deal, it's just a very small detail, but why not.

 

5+ years doesn't really seem oldfag, and the forum is dead as it is. If it does get changed to time only, definitely an 08 join date at the least.

I agree that it should be changed and shouldn't be influenced by post count, but I can't help but imagine how dead it would be if we removed users from the section. If it was actually used I would support this, but because it's so infrequently visited I don't think we should change anything.

 

These are my sentiments. A lot of the older users only infrequently browse the site, it already isn't used too much so I'd rather it wasn't adjusted at all.

 

But does it matter how used it is? It'd be used occasionally if you put a date on it, and it's not really a discussion or market like most of the rest of sythe so it's not like that matters.

 

Perhaps a solution is removing the post count eligibility and slightly shortening the time based requirement - this way the net number of active users able to visit the section might be kept the same.

 

Surely as a discussion forum you'd aim for it to have activity in it. It's not even much of a privilege.

The upper spam being based on either join date or post count is fine. It is available to those who joined the site ages ago for their dedication to the site as well as a select few new users who don't meet the join date requirement but have shown themselves dedicated to the forum via their post count. It's just a thank you for sticking around and contributing.

 

I think the time period is okay, wouldn't really care if it was changed. But post count should definitely be modified to something more difficult to reach.

2,500 posts (I believe that's what it is) is too easy to get for some users.

 

It's just the spam forum... doesn't really matter. Hardly anything gets posted in there anyway.

 

Basically. I don't think it's something to take too seriously. It's hardly used much and a few new members joining the forum every once and awhile doesn't harm anything there.

Is it really that big of a deal? It's a subforum that is barely used. Why restrict the activity even moreso? Some privilege it would be: "Welcome to upper spam, you alongside 3 other inactive members will share this sub forum". People who post 2.5k times throughout are dedicated and deserve it just as much as the person who signed up and forgot for the years following.

 

If any change should happen, I'd prefer it to become invite only.

 

Hmm, I'd prefer this over OP's suggestion.

 

No support and also wouldn't support it to be invite only. Who would invite people ?
If you want to make an invite only sub forum then make a new one, not change upper spam to invite only, but it will be even more useless than the USF imo.
