Still working on dice bbcode addon. Xenforo has very different data structures and classes to vbulletin. Learning as I go

 

Going to work on bbcode addon for the rest of the day. Taking the weekend off then back at it monday.

 

trying to pass the postid and threadid down to the Formater_Base class


Under the hood xenforo is overly complicated if I might put it mildly

 

the xenforo devs have actually coded some support for passing information down to the bbcode formatter in their $extraStates parameter

I believe I have to override this now in ViewPublic_Helper_Message to insert the postid and threadid into this extraStates parameter

 

Annnnnd predictably they won't let me extend that class in an addon.

 

Unfortunatley I was forced to do a three line patch to XenForo_ViewPublic_Helper_Message to get dice working. Essentially there is no other way to pass post_id, post_datetime, etc. down into the bbcode parser. The xenforo addon system does not let you extend this class. (Their addon system is almost completely useless in my experience.)

Since I have two direct code patches now (i.e. one for libmemcached as well) I'm guessing there will be more. I will write a targeted patcher to reapply these patches to updated versions on monday so we don't fall behind on official updates.

The dice is working except for a few (unrelated) import disparities which I will also look at fixing monday. Haven't done cards yet. Since they are not as popular I might leave them out for now.

 

Hoping to have CDT in there next week to test. We'll see. It's just me and Matt working on it and Matt is doing user center only at the moment. We have a lot of custom shit on vb3 that we all take for granted and I only ever remember about at the last minute. I haven't even considered doing the IP audit system yet. I'm actually thinking about leaving it out for initial release and developing it after. I don't know how mods and users feel about that however.

I appreciate that everyone is impatient for the release. However the security issues with vb3 have been cleared up (for now at least). So that gives a little breathing room to get xen right before the switchover. If we switch over to a broken site it will be a total disaster.

That said I do want it to be completely finished before the end of January. (I'm paying for two full sets of servers at the moment so I'd rather it get finished as soon as possible.)
