For anyone who also wants to make a script hooking cloudflare and pingdom together here's the pingdom part

If it returns 0 then the current or "last probed" status is either "down" or "uncertain". If it returns 1 then it's up.

Using that status you can then call into cloudflare's API to change the attack threshold. Put this in a watchdog script with a timed polling loop and you're good to go. Just make sure you put it on a server which is outside the direct line of fire obviously.

 

If any gold seller or site owner wants the full bash script they can PM me.

I won't release more specifics because it will make attacking us easier.

A fresh attack was detected and under attack mode was automatically activated

 

debugging the script:

Occasionally pingdom will send back to a valid request the following:
{"error":{"statuscode":403,"statusdesc":"Forbidden","errormessage":"Not permitted for account type."}}

Maybe it has an internal counter of how many API calls you make a minute or something. Regardless if you're writing a script that listens to their APIs just make sure you catch that possibility and ignore it rather than treating it as an attack.

pingdom can also send you an "unconfirmed_down" status which you may want to react to differently.
