    No-name brand phones!

Has anyone tried some of the budget phones out there and got decent results? I recently lost my Samsung Galaxy S6 and replaced it with a 200$ Iphone 5. After a few months of problems I bit the bullet and bought a BLU Life one for around 220$ CDN (something like $150 for you Americans).

So far I'm extremely pleased with the phone. It does most of everything that I need out of a phone but cost 500$ less than what I paid/am paying for my S6. Considering this I doubt I'll buy another name brand phone again.

    Anyone else done something similar?

I was looking for a new phone a while back and found a G3 for $180 CAD with tempered glass and a case already, so that was one hell of a steal. I was about to settle on one of these though. The reviews were great which is surprising.

Honestly, for those of us who aren't using our phones for the latest greatest these BLU phones do perfectly.

I figure the only reason people really upgrade to these name brands is because their old phone is getting scratched/beat up, etc. If people knew about these options I'm guessing Samsung/Iphone wouldn't be selling their phones for the outrageous prices that they do. All in all as a non-phone fanatic I can't tell the difference in performance between this phone and my S6.

You'd probably only notice on the camera, in games, during multitasking, and in battery lifespan.

Yeah I suppose on the camera I've noticed a slight drop but I really don't take that many pictures anyway. In terms of battery I've used it quite a bit today and still above 50%, but we'll see how it holds up after a couple months.

I don't know if you'd consider it no-named, but a work friend of mine has the One Plus One, and I had a fiddle and was seriously impressed. It handled better than my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 for half then price.

OnePlus did well with the One, but I'd think twice about getting the two. They're trying too hard to be a flagship phone competitor as opposed to being the affordable brand they started as. The OnePlus X is also okay, but only because it's a rebranded and rebuilt OnePlus One. Their invite system is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of as well. Almost got a OnePlus X then found the deal for my G3. Definitely better off.

I think the invite system was to build a little more hype around the brand by giving it a feel of exclusivity.

I'm happy with my Nexus 5X, which was still remarkably cheap considering the specs. Don't think I'd ever get an off-brand phone as I'd rather be safe in the knowledge that my manufacturer's warranty is gonna fix my shit if something goes wrong.

Yeah? I haven't had a look at a One Plus Two, I was actually debating whether to get that or a Nexus 6P for my next phone when my contract runs out in a few months.

I refuse to use android phones at the moment. The micro usb standard is complete garbage and breaks so easily.

I do own a OnePlus One, I enjoyed using it for sure.

I own the Nokia Lumia 1520 and I really like it. I used to buy an iPhone after every 2 years when I was on contract, but that got pretty old quick. I'm on a separate plan now with this phone. Pretty good quality for the price, I picked it up for $69.99 back when they had it on sale. It's like $99.99 now.

Yeah but even for the 100$ you could buy four or five new generation phones (every time they update your current) instead of buying ONE name brand phone (Iphone, Samsung, etc)

Yes i actually bought one of those phones at walmart and before that i had a $900 sony phone, what i realized with this no name brand phone is that it is 9 times cheaper and it works just as good, definitely for its price its very good and overall im very happy with the phone as it also has all the features my sony had. I will probably never buy a "brand" phone anymore, its just a complete waste of money.

I'm with you OP. I've had my Nexus 4 for three years and I've had no issues with it, I use it for work and personal use. At the time it was 299 compared to the 599 Iphone 5 with the same performance specs.. Its a shame google has jumped their prices but they have their vision.. Id be looking at the oneplus line for my next phone probably.

I may add this is 2016, we know how to make decent god dam electronics now. If apples profit margin on their products was 10% they wouldn't be worth the 300 billion or whatever dollars they are worth.
