How do you like to fly?

I'm booking my flight for China...12 months in advance because I need to $ave dat money, and this is the first time in my life i'm booking an international flight by myself. I've discovered there are 4 options for how you want to fly, economy, premium economy, business class and first class.


I had never heard of premium economy before. By giving it a quick google, it sounds like premium economy gives you slightly more leg room, slightly more space between seats and seat tilt, arm space, ect. The meals are also supposed to be better, and you'll get the chairs with the TV w/ in-flight entertainment on them. Now; since this is a 16 hour flight, the premium economy is essential. I aint spending a whole fucking day without the chair with the built-in TV. Business isn't worth springing for because the extra shopping money is worth being slightly uncomfortable for a day. And knowing me i'll probably versache all of it away at the club as soon as my plane lands, but it got me thinking, how do you guys like to fly?

Any high rollers here buying business class when they go domestic or international, anyone with rich parents ever buy them first class tickets when you went on family holidays?

 

There's no reason to spend anything more than the bare minimum on a flight. Why would you rent a TV for 16 hours for $300? Just sleep for half the flight and listen to an audiobook or some shit for the other 8 hours. If it's going to take a year to save for the trip, why spend a third of that money to watch tv for half a day?

 

Yeah I completely agree. I sleep most of the way too and I sleep fine in economy (I try my best to get an isle seat though). Not worth the money imo, plus I'm not sure what airline you fly but the ones I usually choose always have tv/movies standard even for economy.

 

For international flights I've never even been on a plane that didn't have TVs in the back of the seats. Every cabin room had TVs. That being said we didn't fly first class.

As for domestic flights, always Southwest regular class

 

Agreed. It's only 16 hours, no point in spending a fair bit more for slightly better circumstances. Personally, I would always chose the cheapest option. I don't care that economy is herded like cattle, as long as the plane gets from point A to point B that's all I care about.

Same goes with a car rental. As long as it drives it's fine. Doesn't have to be a quality car.

 

Bring along your own entertainment, you may hate the movies / tv shows they are showing, making that extra investment useless. You'll have more fun watching your own movies, and playing your own games than you would watching Friends re-runs anyways.

I'm fairly tall, but a pretty skinny guy so I usually do have trouble in terms of "stretching out" but on longer flights to Europe I'm always up and about stretching when possible so it isn't much of an issue.

 

Just booked my flights from Australia to Europe and went economy. Never heard of premium economy either tbh but I wouldn't fork out any more for any other class than economy until I am making some serious bank!

 

I travel economy and they have TV. If you are just spending more $$$ just for a Tv look up ur economy clas flight first some of them do have a Tv

 

No money to even travel sad life here.

 

Wait, it takes that long to fly to China from Australia?

For a friend it only take around 8 or so hours to get Hong Kong, so I didn't think it'd take that long to get there. I've only been on a flight for a maximum of two hours, and that was on economy. It's not the most comfortable experience but for the amount of money I save it's definitely worth it. If you don't travel too often, 13 hours on economy should be fine. By the time you get all excited after looking at the window and you have a nap or something you won't even notice the benefits of the premium options.

 

Id be considerate with my $$ and take that good ol economy

 

Every time I've flown I eventually just ended up sleeping and bringing along a laptop for some films. Wouldn't really be able to justify spending the extra for a bit of comfort.

 

Battalion Commander gave me his first class ticket for leave once. The gesture meant a lot more than the gift. As in, no go unless it's a no charge deal.

premium economy is the best especially during long flights for 5hrs+

 

always fly economy except when i'm not paying for it. premium economy is nice but generally not worth the upcharge (though you can sometimes find it for +$30, which is then totally worth it)

Couldn't really give a fuck to be honest, the cheapest for me will do.

Worst flight i've been on was a 12 hour flight to Mauritius in Economy. Being a rather large individual having fuck all leg room didn't really help my situation.

Thank god for being average height. When my hockey team travels we try to get cheap seats, which isn't too good for most of us. Always gonna be someone complaining bout leg room during the flight lol. but for me and my bud who are under 6'1 its totally fine
