I thought the way they managed to introduce the new characters as well as bring the older ones back into it was very well done. They didn't overdo either one. It did feel slight cheesy the way the music pumped up and they built up to an old character being shown on the screen but it still got me excited each time.

Just binge-watched all of them except the most recent one. Going to see in theaters tomorrow. Pretty hyped, but a lot of people saying it was meh is really letting me down :(

This is exactly how I felt walking out of the theater. The movie was a bit overhyped for me, which never helps—it's always best to go in with low expectations and be pleasantly surprised than vice versa. I can confidently say that if they hadn't recasted the original actors I wouldn't have had much interest in it at all. The old cast definitely helped solidify it as an actual Star Wars sequel.

And yeah, Kylo Ren is a disappointingly weak villain.

I liked it. Not better than 4/5/6, but leaps and bounds ahead of Episodes 1&2 and about on par with 3.

I think the biggest surprise was how Mark Hamil actually looked like a bamf rather than a disgusting sack of shit like I was expecting. Guy was ugly back in the 70's

7 is good. I went in without high expectations, avoiding hype and spoilers as much as I could, and I was not disappointed. I'll be very honest: it's a very Star Wars-y Star Wars film. It's done right, and it's done well. This is the level of quality we should have received from the prequels.

There were a few plot holes that I hope they address later, though. Also what the fuck was with that final scene? She was holding that damn lightsaber for like a solid 5 minutes lmfao.

    @ your spoiler:
I was sort of cheesed about how much of a colossal pussy he was, but I think that's the whole point. I think we're going to see an Anakin type story where we see a conflicted kid get torn in every which direction, likely ending with him turning to the light much like vader did in 6.

The guys writing it know exactly what they're doing. It felt so deliberate. I think his character was like that on purpose so that we wouldn't see him as high and mighty for whatever they have planned for 8 and 9.

Critically-speaking, as a film (seeing it as objectively as possible), 7 was exceptionally better than 4/5/6. I'd be interested to see your reaction if you could watch the old films today for the first time followed by 7. Chances are you'd say 7 was the better one. If you rewatch 4/5/6 and forget the nostalgia for a second, you'll see what I mean. Don't get me wrong, 5 will be my favourite until either 8 or 9 takes that spot, but I'm well aware that that's probably entirely due to nostalgia goggles. 7 is a really solid film.

Also saying 7 is on the same level as 3 is a total joke bro, 3 was horse shit though is arguably the best of the prequels.

Can't really agree with much. I thought it was a huge disappointment. I'm going to be rewatching all of the other ones soon but I think I'll still like the originals better.

Mr evil dude was such an annoying pussy. All of the bits about the parent / child relationship were awful and cringeworthy. The Han death scene was so obvious and stupid. Like it is them clearly trying to add some character depth in the most obvious and mass market way possible. Its like them shouting "LOOK AT ME AND MY TORTURED SOUL LOOK PLEASE LOOK PLEASE LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOK" which is just obnoxious.

The plot was also just the old movies all over again. Also the cheese factor is too damn high. They also make jokes which is good but then they make sure that absolutely everyone will understand. The put in a literal fuck ton of references to the old movies and then they made them as obvious as possible and just kept hammering them. The scene about throwing her into a trash chute was a good reference until they kept going and going on about it.

Well, I'd hope 7 is an objectively better movie than the ones that were made 32+ years ago. The originals are just better in my mind dawg, not even with nostalgia goggles. Especially Empire Strikes Back. The originals for their time were just so groundbreakingly awesome. Huge planets capable of blowing up planets. AT ATs. Lightsabers. Characters felt like they had so much more depth. Darth Vader being Lukes father is arguably one of the best plot twists of all time. Giant hairy wookiees who rip arms off if they lose in that virtual chess shit.

I guess they brought in a lot of new shit in the originals because the universe was still fresh. Idk, a lot of my friends too are drawing conclusions too big to fit into the one film. It's the first of many, we're getting another 5 for sure (the episodes and the two between each episode release), so it's hard to tell where they're going with things atm. They're switching up directors for the next two which makes me nervous. We'll just have to see where things go I guess.

All in all, I really enjoyed it. Like previously said, very star-warsy movie and well done. I mean, the plot wasn't the best, but it definitely got me hyped for later movies.

I thought it was pretty decent. Not original trilogy good, but better than some of the prequels.

I liked the universe, music, the light saber battles, use of the force, original cast members, etc. I liked that they added a few good laughs in there.

The plot wasn't great, it kind of jumped around a lot. The movie borrowed from a new hope, which I thought was a bit lame. Really, a third death star?

Bad guy is an interesting character, can't wait to see him become bad ass when his training is complete. In this movie he was pretty weak.

Its hard to live up to the originals, but I thought it was a good attempt. I think they had to set up a lot of stuff, so I feel the next one will be way cooler.

My roommate, who is completely obsessed with the movies, went in with high expectations which I think lead to him being a little disappointed.

Did you find that it was taking some of the ideas from the past movies too much though? I understand using what's successful but some of the parts felt way too similar to past movies, like they can't think of anything new to do, so they recycle parts.

Also, the scene at the end where Rey meets Luke? I was hoping there'd be some dialogue, but the look on Lukes face sorta does say it all.

I thought it did take a lot of ideas from past movies as well. I thought it was quite nostalgic, but almost to the point of a remake.

What do you think Luke's face says? "I'm your father"?
