Runescape Botting Computer - What to look for?

    Hey everyone,

I basically know nothing about computers, so I've come here for help...

-What should I look for when looking for a computer that will basically only be used to bot runescape on?

-Hoping to run 6-10 Tribot (non-lg) bots.

-Anyone know good websites for good rigs?

    Thanks!

Add my Skype, I build computers on the side in my town. I'd be happy to explain anything you may need or have questions about.

Focus heavily on the CPU and get a low/moderate GPU. No less than 8GB RAM.

Newegg is always good, since you're Canadian like me I'd also suggest Canada Computers, NCIX, and my personal favourite TigerDirect. Amazon is also decent but tends to have marginally higher prices for whatever reason.

To build a PC and find out the cheapest prices for your components, use PCPartsPicker (the Canadian one, not the American one).

Don't bother with an external GPU if you're only using your PC for botting, as it will only increase your power consumption and you won't be utilizing its power effectively. The integrated graphics in the newer intel CPUs are fairly powerful; the iGPU in the i7 6700k can do 60 fps on most games.

I'd suggest getting server grade hardware if you're planning on running the farm constantly.

You don't want it crashing/dying and having to restart 30 bots by hand.

Can I ask why you're looking to make a PC solely for botting instead of getting a VPS/Multiple VPS'?

You still have a PC you can use if you stop botting/botting doesn't pan out, while if you buy a VPS you've got to deal with laggier operating conditions and an additional fixed cost each month.

    1 OSRS/very laggy RS3 bot = ~$10/month (based off Logical Node's prices)
    15 RS3 bots on a dedicated PC: $17/month

The dedicated PC costs around $1000 (i7 4790k, decent mobo, gold-rated power supply, cheap monitor/kb/m, 128gb ssd, 32gb ram)

In under 8 months you would break even on operating costs and have a PC that paid for itself. Of course, there's the high initial investment required, but if you were going to upgrade your PC anyway you might as well get one suited for botting.

I wouldn't omit a graphics card altogether. Because integrated graphics use RAM for video memory and RAM is important in a bot build, it'd be foolish to not delegate the graphics load onto the GPU. Doesn't have to be a good one at all, even a $70-$100 one would be enough.
