EOC was terrible, they underestimated the amount of veterans that played the game due to already having some type of commitment, backed by knowledge of the game. EOC made people have to renew their commitment by learning an entirely different combat system.

Another thing that turned me off was the graphics overhaul just before EOC - my interest for the game was waning and relearning what all the gear looked like was off-putting. I'm sure other people enjoyed the improved graphics though.

OT: EOC may have catalyzed the disinterest of Runescape, but perhaps the biggest reason why the Runescape brand is doomed is because it can carry some negative stigma as being that game you played 10 years ago and some people are embarrassed to tell their friends they play. Compare that to league of legends, where people are more open about bragging about their rank, asking their friends to play, sharing strats etc, without as much worry of social prosecution.

I completely agree with this. EoC was such a bad move by Jagex. I have been a player since 2005 and EoC completely killed the game for me, and that's when I quit Runescape for good (until oldschool). The graphics overhaul was just an added bonus which I personally hated as well. I think they were trying to bring more players in with this update, and hoping that the players who come in outweigh the veterans that leave, but I don't think that was the case.

Do agree with this, but a lot of younger players do like to share talking about RuneScape eventually playing it, but most don't end up sticking around, due to the likes of LoL, CS:GO, Ps4/Xbox games which are much more competitive and a-lot less time consuming as in playing 10-15years on one game.

I agree that one thing that totally put me of EoC, and I'm glad I stopped training combat before this happened, was the change in the Armour, it's off-putting and honestly still is. The whole concept of changing the Combat was a stupid move from Jagex, but I guess it was probably their plan to separate the entire game into smaller entities. Hence RS3, Legacy Mode, Classic, 07, DMM, DS. All still based around the one game; but this way they have more opportunities to expand their business and try to get more area's to try and sell their business. Another thing they benefit from doing this is beating of any competition such as RSPS.

What I do like now is RS3, the new layout graphics is more to my liking, compared to 07 which feels like decades ago, and isn't as much to my (pre-15 age of) liking.

Basically if they had left the game as it was, without EoC; the game would of died off much more faster. This way they have people who like all the difference that Jagex is offering.

I maxed my pure the day before eoc came out. I kept telling myself, "there's no way they'll release this update, nobody wants it.."

Still can't believe they straight up did that. I wonder what the poll would've said if they had that system implemented prior?

I know OP is banned, but still an interesting question...

In short though, if EOC never happened, the world would be a better place. Not even just RS world, literally the whole world..... F#@& the EoC update. RIP

Yes it killed the game in a nostalgic or simplistic sense but there is much to be gained from it, too. In order for RuneScape to attract new players (and retain existing players who play other games) it had to try and match what other games were putting out. There was only so long the old style of the game could have lasted before the numbers dwindled 'til zero. It would also be counter-productive to recruit fresh, new graduates in to the design department, wipe 10 years of new ground from their education and dumb them back down to pre-EoC graphics, interfaces and gamestyle. You have to look at it as a business decision rather than with your preference for the game personally.

I enjoy eoc a lot more than 07 combat.

07 combat is the most boring wait and hit thing ever, and yes I do play both games however I almost never do combat on 07, and pvp i find even more boring on 07.

You find pvp boring on osrs, but pvp on rs3 is almost extinct unless you count staking pvp

EoC is a long term standpoint to get the game to Html5 levels.

I actually thought it turned RS3 better than it was prior to Evolution of Combat.

Just because it's extinct, doesn't mean it's not more fun and way more interactive than just sitting waiting between game ticks for your guy to move 2 cms, then start over again. Let's face it, kids don't want to play a game with shit graphics anymore. If a kid sees osrs these days, the average one isn't going to pick the game up and fall in love with it, unlike back in the day when games were just starting to evolve. Osrs is just a way to appease the nostalgia babies.

And the dumb keyboard war going on between the two games is beyond hilarious. A bunch of 20 year old neckbeards telling each other to get cancer, and which version of fucking RuneScape is better lmfao. Community is at such a laughable state, especially OSRS. I cannot play OSRS with my public chat on anymore.
