Would you put your sythe/sythe related acitivies on your CV?

    EDIT: CV meaning resume :)

I am currently applying for jobs (to start my career - not just a shitty temp job) and I am wondering if it is a good idea to put down the fact that I have been able to avoid getting any part-time jobs in the past 2 years due to doing a variety of different gold selling/activities here on sythe onto my CV/Resume.

I would obviously not go into detail on my CV about exactly what I do here on sythe, rather I would just put down something like "Run my own virtual-goods business online" and go into detail about what it has taught me (dealing with customers/how to be professional...etc).

I am asking the people of sythe for advice on whether or not I should do this as I am worried about it potentially back-firing... for example, in an interview where they ask me to explain in more detail when I wouldn't be happy doing so (which would make me look dishonest/unreliable). or the fact that selling RSGP could be seen as selling Jagex's property which may make me look bad from a legal perspective.

If anyone has been in a similar situation any advice would be extremely helpful, so please dont hesistate to pm me or post here :)

I'd just throw Virtual-Goods Entrepreneur on there tbh, looks good/cryptic. If they ask you about it, you'd have a mouthful to say about the matter during the interview, and confidence in your work shows the employer a lot.

Yes, but don't go into detail. Just put something similar to what Pure Addiction said, if they ask about it explain in general terms.

I've used stuff like that on resumes. Just have to word it correctly.

Middlemanning = Providing a high value escrow service

Selling Gold = Business selling intangible assets. Processing purchasing orders, managing a collaborative support team, etc.

    Fixed the typo.

And yeah, usually the employer wants to know more and you'll instantly have quite a bit to say.

I wouldn't put it to be honest. If they ask you to go into detail and you start talking about Runescape, it will look pretty childish.

That's why you don't mention runescape, just mention everything you do; you don't necessarily have to include the name of the game, or say it's a game in general. Just stick with "virtual goods/currency"

Just say its an online currency that people can bhy virtual goods with. If they're curious still just mention you running your own store of a video game currency business.

i guess what i'm saying is, i don't think the benefits of saying "you run a virtual goods business" which sounds shady in itself will outweigh the costs of associating yourself with video games during an interview. basically just think how stupid you would sound as an adult saying "i buy and sell virtual gold in a video game called Runescape" :p

Well I mean if its tax deductible income and you've been making money off of it for the past few years, I think it is worth a mention. I understand what you mean by talking about videogames during an interview, but if you come off confident they'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Unless you've been paying tax on your income that sounds risky. Also, unless you're someone like R2P or Bogla who makes enough to fund yourself & your workers a decent wage I don't think it would be worthwhile.

It really depends where you're applying. If the place wants/looks for online experience then something like that wouldn't be bad to include.

For instance, if I were applying to a job to work as some type of technical manager for a website, or as a staff member of sorts I'd include a little bit about my staff experience but let's say I'm applying to work as a research volunteer in a medical hospital I obviously wouldn't include it.

Thank you for all of the responses, I am still undecided on what I will do...

Care to give a bit of an explanation as to why you think this?

I am not applying for an online/IT related role, so it is a bit irrelevant, however I am applying for a sector that is all about making money, so surely it would still look good.

Depending on the job, I think mentioning it would be a good idea if it's an IT job or something related to the internets.

Personally I didn't, regardless of the fact that it was my most lucrative endeavor after graduating college. When explaining the matter to friends/family that were curious as to my new cash flow, I just told them I dabbled with virtual currencies and left it at that.
