Not all of these are considered folk... For example, Pat the Bunny, I've heard called both "acoustic punk", I'm assuming because 99% of the lyrics are punk-ish. Or, possible because he's also the singer for the acoustic punk band Johnny Hobo and the Freight Trains (will include one of their songs as well). Some I'm sure are called College rock... Okay... So this is hardly a post of folk music... It's a lot of people whining about college, women, drugs, booze, and etc to an acoustic guitar... But this is the kinda music I've been listening to for the past 6 months and thought I'd share it!

Just because I love all of the bands Pat the Bunny has been in and I also find a lot of his work to relate to my own issues, I will give some info about all of that here. Simply skip it if you just wanna dive into the tunes!

His first (labeled) band was Johnny Hobo and the Freight trains. Alcohol, drug use, politics, and the punk scene were common themes in Johnny Hobo songs. They released four EPs, two splits, a live album, and two compilations before disbanding. Pat was also a very heavy drug user during this "era". While doing vocals for Johnny Hobo, he also sang with a much more "punk rock" tone.

With the ending of Johnny Hobo, Pat continued writing songs in a similar vein. This caused the formation of Wingnut Dishwashers Union. They released three full-length albums, two splits, and a compilation during their two-year career. Wingnut Dishwashers Union broke up when Pat entered rehab at the end of 2009.

After graduating from rehab, Pat moved to Tucson, Arizona, began writing new music about the politics of drug addiction(and overcoming it), and formed the full electric band Ramshackle Glory. They released two full-length albums and an acoustic version of one of these albums, and toured the country twice and then took a hiatus from 2012 to 2013. The group got back together and release a split album with Ghost Mice in 2013 and have gone on another cross-country tour. They are still touring, less frequently though.

During Ramshackle Glory's hiatus, Pat began focusing on a solo path in 2012 and started releasing new music as Pat the Bunny. Since the beginning of 2014 Pat has been touring frequently as a solo act.

Okay! I'll post Pat's music first at once you (possibly) just read about these bands -

Johnny Hobo & the Freight Trains - New Mexico Song

Wingnut Dishwasher's Union - Urine Speaks Louder than Words

Ramshackle Glory - Never Coming Home (Song for the Guilty)

Pat the Bunny - I'm not a good Person

    And now some others!

Andrew Jackson Jihad - Getting Naked and Playing with Guns

    Modern Baseball - Your Graduation

The Front Bottoms - If you're Happy

The Mountain Goats - Collapsing Stars

    ENJOY!

I like Days N' Daze, but sometimes I can't stand the chick singer. I never understood why they released that album that way, everyone thinks the bandname is "Rogue Taxidermy" and that the albums called Days N' Daze. Confusing, the good news is that they've got more than that one album.

Who, Whitney? I don't really mind her so much. I thought she was quite good at times, like Misanthropic Drunken Loner and Day Gaunts. Although I was referring specifically to that album, not the band, it is in fact the only album I've listened to by them.

EDIT: Listening to it again she's also not bad on Blue Jays at all.
